I saw Jamie Raskin defending Plaskett taking a phone call from Jeffrey Epstein as ethical because ”are we not allowed to take phone calls from constituents now?”

Fuck off. She took his money too and even refused to give it back for awhile. The DCCC refused to take his money because of his past.

You could do a lot worse than Spenser if you’re looking for a male role model in the PI genre, is what I’m saying.

And also in EARLY AUTUMN, he tries to show patience as he and Susan are groping toward some kind of mutual understanding despite their anger toward each other at the time.

Something else you notice on later reads of the series is that Spenser rarely ever raises his voice. He almost never yells.

I used to avoid EARLY AUTUMN because it’s mostly just Spenser taking a couple months off to try to teach a kid how to be a decent person and now it’s one of my favorite Parker books.
One moment that sticks in my mind from the early Robert B Parker Spenser novels is when Spenser notices an attractive lady and then realizes that she's a teenager. He immediately looks away and banishes her from his mind.

It's a throwaway moment in a book series that's a lot about how to be a man.

Thinking about how an editor once chewed me out when I was a reporter because a radio station offered me free tickets to see a movie premiere.

I didn’t take them. I just told her about the offer.

This is a wonderful time to support journalists who do the work, don’t fuck sources, and actually have moral clarity.
i promise i don’t mean to high horse this but if you’re thinking about giving lizza ten bucks there are a lot of good independent journalists whose work you could subscribe to for a month instead
