Poor Lady Wilde. What a sad end. The lack of mourners was at her own request apparently (and the number varies with reports) I wonder who this old friend of the family was? Florence Stoker there on behalf of Bram? London Correspondence. | Freeman's Journal 8 February 1896 British Newspaper Archive

Here’s Duke behavioral economist Dan Ariely asking Jeffrey Epstein for “the name and email of the redhead that was here with you.” This is four years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for procuring a child for prostitution.

Pretty extraordinary to think about how much cardiovascular researchers figured out, and how that turned into public health campaigns, medicines, surgeries, and emergency care that changed millions of people's lives.

Brought the kids to the Tower of London and was sickened by the loot on display and the “here are some gifts that we received from our friends around the world” way that the whole thing is presented.
And in many cases, they literally obliterated the loot.

The British, royals & public, were so gaudy that, after forcing a 10 yo boy to turn over India's millennia old cultural symbol, they destroyed nearly half of it.

Margot Robbie is wearing Mughal queen Nur Jahan's necklace. It was gifted by her husband King Jahangir (r. 1605-1627), Akbar's son. Cartier acquired it (harummmph). Cartier's president later gifted it to Liz Taylor..blah blah.

Colonial loot around your neck.

On this day, 2 years ago. I sat in bed and said to myself, 'Why haven't you finally made that compilation of Jim McDonald from Coronation Street, absolutely battering people to Motörhead? So I did.'

Enjoy! It will forever be my greatest contribution to society.

Do you sometimes think "oh boy, I would really like to hear Julia ramble some more about the topics about which she doesn't stop talking to begin with?"

The wait is finally over! @guruspod.bsky.social and had a chat about open science, causal inference, and apparently birth order effects.
Open Science, Psychology, and the Art of Not Quite Claiming Causality with Julia Rohrer - Decoding the Gurus
In a rare departure from our usual diet of online weirdos, this episode features an academic who is very much not a guru. We’re joined by Julia Rohrer...

I wrote about one of the saddest evenings of my life: seeing Christine Maggiore, who opposed HIV medicines, speak in San Francisco. She was one of the HIV denialists who met President Mbeki at the International AIDS Conference in Durban in 2000; she died of AIDS

Yes, you heard that right.
