Before apps many, many restaurants offered “free” delivery by having dedicated delivery staff or similar set up and pricing it in. Maybe extractive tech is the problem.
Grim news out of Seattle: we passed an ordinance raising the pay of delivery drivers, but the result has been fewer delivery orders, leaving many of them worse off.

It may just be that "instant delivery of your food" is not a practical business & only exploitation can make it "work."
Seattle's gig worker law was supposed to boost pay. It did at first, until orders dropped
It’s been two years since Seattle’s gig worker minimum wage took effect. It was intended to boost labor standards for app-based drivers who deliver food for companies like DoorDash or Uber Eats. How h...

Opening Day is still a little ways off, but the offseason is officially over.

With that, some words putting a quick bow on the winter that was.

Sometimes it can feel bad to bag on Bellevue but then Bellevue will be like “THIS is our history” about completely unremarkable retail plots.
Visited Old Bellevue today to get a closer look at the facades that the city council is set to try and preserve through an emergency zoning ordinance on Tuesday.

Yay, glad to see this finally announced publicly! The Burke Gilman is our state’s most popular trail and it should be comfortable, safe, and accessible for all. If it were a highway we would already have widened it. The design next to UW Medical should be the standard (with the addition of lighting)

When you’re biking, you’re truly out in the world, seeing and experiencing the communities you traverse.

So much different than driving.
On Saturday as I was riding home from the Alex Pretti ride, I was on the 26th Ave SW neighborhood greenway when a young black boy on a bike yelled out to me, middle aged white man, “wanna race?!” and you better goddamn believe I said “yeah!” and we raced a couple laps up the block. #bikejoy 🚲💨 ❤️

The fact that both are quite experienced—8 years and 12 years with CBP—is yet more evidence that CBP should be abolished and all of its agents fired. There's no way to "reform" or "retrain" that, it's just a violent gang with badges.

Local cops have put out a statement saying they will expressly disobey the Mayor‘s order to protect Seattlites from ICE violence. In case anyone was wondering
Reminder that we are a year into aggressive ICE raids and concentration camps, and there’s not a single example of local cops protecting people against this violence, kidnapping, or death.

A fact for most or all of the country: none of your tax money is going towards protecting you or your neighbors from ICE and the federal government.

If @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social doesn’t have a borderline adversarial relationship with SPD given its current form, she isn’t doing enough.

They need to be reined in to a significant degree and the support is there for it.

Ignore the capital-backed right-wing echo chamber.
Latest attack post from SPOG. Can’t wait for @mayorofseattle.bsky.social to straighten this foolishness out.

oh no
Unless Jackson Kowar clears waivers & remains a Mariner, the Robinson Canó era in Seattle is truly complete today.

Kowar was the final member of all trades in & out (+all subsequent trades of those players) involving Canó, Jarred Kelenic, Edwin Díaz, etc., not to have reached free agency/waivers.

FYI here is the list of local conservation groups that have signed onto an amicus brief trying to force the City of Seattle to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the environmental review of the growth plan that was approved in December.
