Thank you for doing that work. Breaks my heart when old growth conifers are in danger. And I am glad your new jacket kept you dry! Glad we finally have some good rain though. 🌲

The shadow of a hawk fell over them.

Frog and Toad jumped under a rock.

The hawk flew away.

“We are not afraid!” screamed Frog and Toad at the same time.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Some of these people have now been fired and rehired TWICE since January. The current state of dysfunction is mind boggling.

Shutdowns, Strikes, and Solidarity
This week on The Labor Force Podcast, we’re taking a hard look at what happens when the system stops working — and workers don’t. The federal government shutdown continues to ripple through the lives of hundreds of thousands of public servants, forcing families to make impossible choices. In St. Louis, the Boeing strike enters its third month as machinists stand firm for fair pay and respect. Meanwhile, contagious organizing is spreading in Houston’s hospitality sector and California’s health care system, where Kaiser nurses are threatening one of the largest walkouts in company history. We also unpack California’s groundbreaking new law allowing Uber and Lyft drivers to unionize — a major shift for gig workers nationwide. Then we close with a generational deep dive: from pension gridlock in Europe to Gen X’s fight for survival in an AI-driven job market. From shutdowns and strikes to questions of fairness across generations, this episode asks: what kind of economy are we really building — and who is it working for? Segments: “Surviving the Shutdown” – The human toll of Washington’s dysfunction “The Boeing Standoff” – Three months in, the fight for dignity on the line “Contagious Organizing” – Houston hospitality workers and California nurses rise up “The Gig Worker Breakthrough” – Sectoral bargaining comes to California “Nothing But Hot Air” – Former Oklahoma state superintendent Ryan Walters’ attack on teachers’ unions “Gerontopia and Gen X” – Generational strain and the future of work

In more "whoopsie-daisy" RIF bullshit...

Wow, federal employees do important work. Who knew?

This is why it's important to appoint and confirm competent leadership, not synchophants with self-serving agendas.

And we wont let homophobia or the rise in fascism keep us from being who we are. #Gay #LGBTQ+ #Queer

Due to Tennessee’s abortion ban, Mayron Hollis was forced to continue a pregnancy that threatened her life. An emergency delivery left her without a uterus and her baby with medical issues.

This was their first year in a post-Roe state (pub. Feb. 2024):
She Was Denied an Abortion After Roe Fell. This Is a Year in Her Family’s Life.
Tennessee law prohibits women from having abortions in nearly all circumstances. But once the babies are here, the state provides little help. We followed one family as they struggled to make it.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

A mark of greatness in my profession (acting, not shitposting) is an effortless quality. One of the reasons Diane Keaton doesn’t get the same roses as, say Meryl Streep or Glenn Close, is she made it look so easy. It definitely was not. One of the greats.

My kid was driving us home from Oaks Park skate rink today and of course our route went right by there and I was like "good on those folks out there chilling in the rain." And my sweet suburban kid was like "what was that?" "The ice facility." "THAT was the ice facility?" "Yup." "Huh."
