Anchor Brewing Not Leaving SF, Despite False Report Claiming Otherwise
There hasn’t been any news on the rebirth of Anchor Brewing in a while, but there was some fake news about it this week, as a craft beer publication wrongly claimed the company was leaving SF.

The, um, bad news here is that the 1978–79 season ended up with a record 89.7” of snowfall.

So…
Chicago's off to a snowy start to the winter season. Chicago's already experienced nearly the same amount as snow as all of last season. This is the quickest start to winter since 1978, when 24.1" of snow fall by December 7.

Amtrak's restored service between New Orleans and Mobile has far exceeded initial ridership projections since launch in August, just like what happened when the Borealis service was established between Chicago and St. Paul last year.

Amtrak is currently expecting to double the first-year estimates.
Gulf Coast train line is among the most successful in Amtrak’s history. See ridership totals.
The route’s early success has raised hope for some advocates of regional train travel. See how many people have taken the train since its launch in August.

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.

Worth comparing this with CPD Supt Snelling two days after Brighton Park shooting, + testimony of CPD brass (including Chief of Dets) at budget hearing.

Worth noting, also: no PD has power all its own. Every chief/supt reports up to someone else. Every agency has, allegedly, legislative oversight.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Absolutely fucking not.

Trump was every bit the co-architect of that farce. That was not a thing that happened to him it was a thing he co-authored.

It is humiliating *because* he wanted it.
It's almost impossible to make me feel sorry for Trump, but the sheer depth of his brokeness, combined with his age, the utter humiliation involved in this farce was making me legit sad.

Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.
