The big difference is that solar+battery is fit and forget. Once it's installed, whether from China or anywhere else, it's yours and you are independent. No more payments to anyone.

With fossil fuels you're an addict, dependent on your dealer who can make you dance to their tune.
There's a global solar energy revolution happening led by China and it should have been one of the biggest stories of 2025.

While the US is committing to a suicide pact with fossil fuels, the rest of the world is leapfrogging into cheap nearly limitless energy.

China added 500+ TWh of electricity in the past 12 months. Coal fell ~66 TWh.

#Solar delivered ~75% of net growth in both China and the U.S. over the same period.

The difference isn’t direction — it’s speed. China is growing ~4× faster.

Now #BESS is scaling, turning capacity into firm power.

Toujours aussi fascinant cette détestation sans grande logique de l’éolien qui va de Trump à Poutine en passant par leurs soutiens en Europe 🤷‍♂️

Good morning with good news: Solar & wind will skyrocket to 37% of China's electricity in 2030 from 18% in 2024.

Add 13% from hydro and China is 50% renewable in 2030.

Add ~5% nuclear and China is ~55% non-fossil fuel electricity in 2030.

By 2030, biofuels are projected to emit 70 MtCO2e more than the fossil fuels they replace.

That’s the same as the emissions from almost 30 million diesel cars.

Cette année le solaire européen va produire autant d’électricité que la totalité de notre parc nucléaire, et ce n’est que le tout début.
Bonne nouvelle: il n’y a aucun moyen de production neuf aussi bon marché, avec l’éolien.
MILESTONE | This September, EU solar generation already surpassed 2024's total.

In the whole of 2024, solar generated 301 TWh of EU power. By September 2025, it reached 312 TWh.

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

But it threatens the profits of fossil fuel companies & nations - so these are pouring money into right-wing populism to stop the transition. This seems to me the biggest story in politics.
