Movement is a super cool project. If you work in any kind of animal behavior research, give it a look!
Had such a blast at #CBIAS2025 — a meeting full of image-analysis nerds (what more could you want?).

Hmmm on a test image I generated using Gemini, it even did a pretty good job of simulating gaussian noise.

We just released a new major version of TrackMate (v8), the cell and organelle tracking plugin of Fiji.

It ships many new features, detailed below, but that are articulated around the following:

I totally get dunking on Sam Altman because honestly he seems like a huge tool, but Jesus Christ we don't have to pretend that we're so stupid that we can't understand from context that he was talking about energy supply to power data centers.

Italy has radicalized me into "absolute global smoking ban". Not just in bars and restaurants, but everywhere. It's gross and it fucks up the air for everyone in a 20 meter radius around these selfish pricks.

Like many people, I went to see James Watson speak when I was in grad school. And like many people, I listened to him say the most sexist and bigoted shit you can imagine. I wish I'd had the courage to walk out.

Good fucking riddance.

The FPbase spectra viewer just had it's biggest software refactor in 6 years. It *should* be largely invisible to the end user (hopefully just faster and less buggy). Please let me know if you find any issues as you use it!

My official position on games being expensive is that I'm playing through a backlog of AAA games from ~3 years ago that I bought on steam for $5-10 and there's no conceivable way I'll ever catch up to today's games and so games are super cheap, actually.
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising
