I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I've had three babies. My first two passed meconium & were whisked to the side of the room to be suctioned to avoid aspiration. My third had shoulder dystocia. My bed was flipped down, med staff rushed forward & he was unstuck before I even knew what happened. This is horrific.

Hey freezer, you could have let me know your outlet tripped. You know, just saying. *sigh* At least the chest freezer is clean now. I wish it hadn't been full though.

If you haven't already read this you're in for a treat. 😆
4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

I love him. “The first time I caught up to [ICE], I could tell that they already knew who I was. They had seen me before, so they thought they were just going to speed away. I was like, ‘Ha ha, bitches, I got a new scooter!’”

Heads up Mac users
Not satisfied with just destroying their own brand goodwill, OS companies are now using AI to try to destroy the good names of the apps users install. (Scrivener taking out adds to explain how it has no AI but Apple adds some anyway.)

This!
But the point (there is a point) is, people fetishise the idea over the hard work of plotting and character development and research and internal consistency and just writing the fucker, because the Idea is the sparkly magic bit.

And this is what makes them put value in the AI prompt.
November 19, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Seriously. I will never be able to write every book I have an idea for. The idea is not the thing.
I am not aware of a single author who has a shortage of book ideas. Words, yes. Ways to make the ideas become a book, yes. But I've never met an author who doesn't have ideas just raining down all the damn time.

Writers, you should read this too. It's a long read, but you will find it edifying.

This thread. I think it's incredibly important to remember that the TERF fragility/rabidity started to take off right around the height of me too, and the main message they had was "men are inherently violent."

They targeted trans WOMEN, while at the same time excusing actual violence from cis men.
MeToo was intentionally co-opted by the type of 'feminist' that berates and abuses people for not conforming to gender, while insisting that a uterus makes a woman...

This idea that #metoo was a temporary piece of insanity that happened because America was too woke...

Fuck you. It was a temporary moment in time when people decided, for the first time, that 20 women were finally equal to one man.

Haven't seen an AO3 one of these yet, so I thought I'd share.
Attention friends! As a Cyber Sec Specialist, I feel a need to share this. If you receive an email from Ao3, alerting you to a password reset attempt, DO NOT click on the links! This is a scam to get you to provide your current password. Absolutely terrible. Safe cyber smart! #ao3 #scamalert

Did Penguin pay booktok to promote their classic editions? Because I've now seen three videos in a row about checking out The Count of Monte Cristo, and it's all the same cover. Don't get me wrong, I love that book, but it seems a little suspicious.
