Some of y'all really need to do some soul-searching about why you can't tell the difference between "cute, pretty" characters and "sexy, horny" characters bc a lot of this stuff you complain about is just a little girl in a dress and when you go "I'll bet people jack off to that" it is a you problem

this is all generative tech! almost all the time, it is better to just do the thing yourself than to try to build a monkey with poor cognition that can occasionally, in perfect conditions, do it for you

emergence is only useful in contexts where a random vector is desirable and intentional!
I'll say it again -- I'm on my firm's AI committee: every canned demo has had brutal, malpractice-level errors, and every live trial has required more time and care to vet the output than to just do it, like working with an unteachably incompetent associate you'd need to sit down for a Hard Talk.
Loving that AI productivity boost!

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

Thanks to all who have reposted this thread to help get the word out. The selling of these books "as new" on Amazon is making it more difficult for Unbound authors to rebuild what we lost and move on.
Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

I'm always confused when writers change the plot because a reader figured out what was coming. Surely that's good? Surely that means the breadcrumbs have been laid out appropriately?

Thread.

You have probably guessed that I am rather a fan of Shakespeare, and maybe even that I am particularly fond of The Tempest
Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

I will take this opportunity to remind you that Tim Sweetney is the devil.
SO... I'm pretty much done with Fortnite. There were statements made by Tim Sweeney saying that AI usage doesn't need to be disclosed, and then AI usage was found all over this current season- from art to sprays to in-game songs. Between that, and the upcoming shitty wizard collab... Yeah, I'm done.

Everyone calling customer service wants to talk to a person but a person would be expensive so the implicit goal of all customer service systems is to prevent anyone from talking to a person ever at any time.

Because someone thought it would be smart to make people who are mad at you even madder.
i sincerely believe that we are officially in an age where “customer service” has gotten so bad that it’s actually better to not ask for help at all in 95% of cases, because you can tell companies are actively building their systems out hoping you never talk to them

A lot of people don't seem to understand.

CAPITAL is anything you put into a production process: labour, tools, materials, facilities, TIME, and then the capital is EXPLOITED to produce the output.

And every capitalist - provider of that capital - has an ownership stake in the output.

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Randomly remembering one time in English class we were supposed to write Hallowe'en poems, and I wrote about a monster named Snorkeldorf who made the noise "forforf." The teacher circled it in red, wrote "forf-forf" next to it, and I lost points on my grade. I am still offended
