Exactly. That's why I don't believe the Putin regime will collapse after the war. It will become more repressive at home, and more aggressive in trying to subvert and internally destroy its neighbours and enemies abroad.
USSR collapsed because its economy turned to shit. Afghanistan had little to do with the collapse, just one of the myriad of factors that destroyed USSR economy, but the primary reason was the economy.
