The Populist Right could borrow from an old IRA statement:

"Today we were right, but remember we only have to be right once – you have to be right always."

We have a WhatsApp group for the golden retrievers in our village and they get together at weekends for wrestling and general ear chewing. I think the collective noun for golden retrievers is a "romp"

I fixed my freesat box earlier this week, it's only been broken for about 2 years.
I've been rediscovering the joy of live television. Currently watching the Lady Mayors Show on BBC1. I have to say it is fascinating and wonderful. And it's showing how international a city London is.

I've been Dave since I was 18. My late Mom always used to call me David and my brothers still do. I guess Mom was entitled to as she was the one who gave birth to me.
But when I'm called David instead of Dave it always makes me feel like I'm about to be told off.
Yep. I am Victoria and never Vicky - I hate that people who have never met me before assume that it's OK to shorten my name! Good friends call me Vic, which is fine, but never Vicky.

Just fixed my Freesat box (replacement hard drive) whilst waiting for lunch to warm up. Buzzing on that repair high!

This is yet another example of how you beat the far right. By beating them, not trying to be them. By having your own agenda, not aping theirs. With courage and conviction - and humour - not fear and timidity.

After the infamous poisoner William Palmer was executed, the burghers of my hometown of Rugeley petitioned the government to allow them to change the town's name. The government said yes as long as they named the town after the prime minister. The PM? Palmerston! So it's still Rugeley!
Yeah, but those are low priorities compared with Hertfordshire sorting out this positively scary road name in Royston.

Further proof of the f*ckwitttery at HMRC. I do hope the Guardian continues with this series of stories. I'm looking forward to seeing all the different ways that HMRC buggered this up!
More information coming out now on this. Looks like a Cabinet Office scheme led by Georgia Gould… planned savings of £10m-£30m a year (back up lower Premier League full-back price) don’t really seem worth the candle if this the result IMO.

I mean, the whole thread, but this is the gist.
Call them cunts and tell them they get nothing. Spit in their stupid faces. Put extra Asians in the Christmas adverts and explicitly say you're doing it to fuck them off. Tell them *no* for once Jesus actual Christ lads. Not "this is unworkable" or "this is expensive". Just no.

I was talking to my wife about the recent HMRC child benefit cockup. She said it sounded like they'd been penny pinching on the project, that they hadn't wanted to spend money on having enough experienced staff writing the requirements and test cases. Austerity - penny wise, pound foolish since 2010
I keep being told spending cuts are easy. Honest proposals such as those recently outlined by Policy Exchange show they are not

This is a really good thread. Read it and think. Mull over its point. I have thoughts myself. I'm sure you will have too.
📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

" best strategy is to hope he forgets the name of your country" - genuinely excellent summary!
"You and I could try and talk about this like it were economics or like it were international relations, but it's not. It's a soap opera. It's Sons and Daughters. It's Home and Away. It's Neighbours. And it's going to be a soap opera that goes on and on for the next three and a half years."
