I mean honestly, it *does* explain how elite backlash against MeToo was about as intense as the reaction to 9/11.
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Gonna reiterate this ahead of all the politicians and journalists insisting these pigs are inappropriately expressing valid concerns: their concerns are bullshit. Connor McGregor's pub hasn't been attacked by a mob. The Catholic Church still runs the majority of primary schools. No mobs for them
A Garda van has been set on fire at a large protest outside an asylum seeker accommodation centre in west Dublin.

Anti-immigration groups and fringe far-right political parties had been promoting the protest earlier today.

That's the great thing about being Irish: most of the leaders of the Easter Rising and the founder of the IRA all died before they had to do any peacetime governing, so they're just Heroes simple as. It's just a massive coincidence the one who did survive, DeValera, was a douche /s
In some circumstances, victors are the victors because they are skilled in applied violence, which is not a good proxy for
peacetime governance abilities

it would be political suicide to do it but like 60% of the developed world very badly needs a poltician willing to talk to them like adults and say “listen, you can let in Rahul to work and pay taxes, you can pay more taxes, or your pension can be cut. those are the options. you need to pick one.”

The adamant lack of interest in Trump-Epstein connections from parts of the right that frequently express concern about Jeffrey Epstein, sexual deviancy, elite-protecting cover-ups, etc. is perhaps the single best example showing how they’re entirely devoid of any principle besides us-them.
It’s kind of amazing how much the MAGA influencers tried to fan the Epstein conspiracy flames considering the obvious embers.

There is a trolley heading towards five ppl. Pulling the lever kills the person on the other track. It does nothing to alter the trolley's trajectory. Do you pull for fun while pretending it's a protest for the welfare of the five and sending death threats to everyone telling you not to?

So far Musk and Trump have killed 300,000 ppl with USAID cuts. That's more than the first three years of the invasion of Iraq by most measures. I worry it'll get lost cos it means admitting that a hypocritical neoliberal US actually is different from a GOP fascist US but holy fuck it shouldn't
The US was singlehandedly keeping tens of millions of ppl alive on a rounding error of our national budget, and we blew it up b/c the guys in charge think that it's only real power if it involves sneering at a camera after blowing up some random civilians somewhere.

And both get far, far less coverage than “Trump and Musk pull aid to Africa, estimated death toll of over 20 million” because no South Sudanese refugee ever invited Jake Tapper to a cocktail party.
“Presidents former staffers describe him as a fascist threat” got 1/20th of the coverage of “Harvard president incorrect citations” and 1/1000th of the coverage of “Biden old”

REPORTER: President Trump looks healthier than ever before. I'm sure everybody in this room could agree. Is he working out with Bobby Kennedy and is he eating less McDonald's?

LEAVITT: I can confirm the president is in very good shape

Watching all these finance "professionals" put their blind faith in Trump cos they were excited to get those uppity women and minorities back in their place makes me torn between going even further left on economics and wishing we had capitalists who were actually soulless machines maximising profit
again, that their cultural and political preferences made them massively misread an obvious threat - one so obvious that Trump himself said it over and over - should cause people to rethink trusting them with their money in the first place

Not even open borders neccesarily, just saying "eh, if you want taxation without representation fine here's ur residency. And if you move here illegally you have to pick up trash for 8 weeks cos it's a misdemanour about not filling in paperwork, no need for us to become psychopaths"
Honestly the first country to stop stabbing itself in the throat over immigrants will be a superpower within ten years. Half cos immigration is good, half cos it'll stop burning money on stupid BS

All those furrowed-brow American Prospect pieces about how this is what American has become today, and how our failure to help the forgotten places is what will elect Trump. But then we helped the forgotten places and it turns out no, still just racism all along.

By "filthy mongrel races devoid of pure white blood and their Jewish cucks" you can understand Trump to be criticising healthcare insurance companies
By “globalists” you can understand Trump to be criticizing large publicly traded multinational corporations and the investors who back them.

This is what gets me about these douches branding themselves as anti-establishment: RFK Jr wants to kill your children to avoid admitting that a scientist from a peasant family knows more about vaccines than him. His conspiracist BS is him assuming he knows better than anyone cos he was born rich
robert f. kennedy jr. submits his application to harvard university. his application is, in its entirety, a single page with his name "Robert F. Kennedy Jr."

he is accepted immediately.

I feel like I'm going crazy: ONE OF THE BIGGEST PUSHER OF EPSTEIN RICH PEDO CONSPIRACIES NEVER ASKED TRUMP ABOUT HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH EPSTEIN. NOT EVEN BY MISTAKE OR A SOFTBALL.

His "centrism" is branding, he's a GOP goon who'll let Trump and Musk be pedos as long as they cut taxes and bomb Mexico
Rogan wanted Trump to win and got Trump on. people pretending he was a fair actor that Harris somehow mishandled was insultingly dumb at the time

Armchair hypothesis: the intellectual work of having to think strategically makes killing your neighbours so you can take their shit feel sophisticated and clever. This makes it easier to rationalise why it's not a dumb power fantasy that becomes evil when you apply it to real ppl
I feel like 99% confident that Paradox has produced more fascist radicalisation than Doom.

YMMV but this feels worse cos the cheerleaders for Bush Jr had the excuse of "I watched innocent ppl jump to their death rather than burn alive cos Bin Laden decided that was the best way to avenge Palestine" while Trump 2.0 has "durr mcdonalds/joe rogan told me to"

Tbf it's totally consistent to say sanctions hurt civilians, but given their relatively broad support of war crimes inflicting unemployment on Israeli/Russian civilians to save Ukrainian/Palestinian lives is acceptable. But a lot of leftists refuse to admit they are making this compromise
I mean the other thing is a lot of them affiliate sanctions with places like Cuba or other attempts to do regime change via economic pain where we are actually making people suffer for no good reason

The Russians just deserve to suffer and there's lots of good reasons for that
