Last minute, I know, but I'm heading over to A Capella Books, Atlanta, to sign books from 3 to 5; if y'all are in ATL and want my John Hancock on the CBHotC, c'mon down!

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

This is the most important document to emerge from Queens in a generation. I will never recover from Queens Village being known as Shadyville or gangsters known by nicknames such as “Gotti Sleeze” and also… “Eli”

Preach it!
It's a daiquiri kind of day. Made with sugar, not simple, which really does make a delightful difference.

This cold, wet day has me in a mood for comfort. It’s early in the season for a pot of Boilo, but not egregiously so. My dad’s family settled in Pennsylvania coal country; this hot whiskey comes from there. If you can read them, my handwritten notes on Boilo follows. First up: Four Queens whiskey.

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone – a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture – prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.

Thread: part of an ongoing project to erase people of color from military history:
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

This is excellent.
Jazz OTD: I expect complex reactions to saxophonist Frank Strozier's decision to play Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On" in his November 5, 1977 session, and using it as the title of one his final albums. But his intensity remains unmistakable here, with a great band, incl. Harold Mabern (p). #jazzsky
