Remember Ostrich Osheaga?

When a bunch of far-right convoy influencers, health nuts, antivaxxers and even RFK Jr himself waged war on the Canada Food Inspection Agency over an ostrich cull?

Well, my friends at @nationalobserver.com got some wild insider info on the impact of this harassment:

This is exactly the issue with platforming Nazis or others w harmful rhetoric.
Takedowns of Nazis on debate shows just leads to more moderates watching debate shows with Nazis and more incentives to have Nazis on. Piers will just get a little bigger audience to see him have polite disagreements with the other outspoken neo-Nazis he has on regularly.

This morning an advance publication of my article for Implicit Religion came out. I have written about a movement in 2024 self titled as God's Army, who were an anti immigration protest/spiritual warfare in the USA. With links to Canada’s convoys.

Ditto for Canada.

We get held up as an example of a system that works, but that is in large part thanks to the fact that, as a rule, we just don't hold Canadians accountable for any of it, so it seems as if we're perpetually innocent victims of international forces.
That's too rosy of a picture, we have way too much campism and identitarianism. Lots of people pretend that propaganda peddlers only target one side of political aisle when the narratives are far more ubiquitous. UK has articles for example on academics that spread lies about chemical weapon attacks

Sometimes, so churches, do the right thing.

I'd love for someone to tell me what "acting straight" means b/c....
I promise I'm going to stop talking about Heated Rivalry soon, but I'm grossed out by takes that it's solely a straight woman fantasy because the characters are deep in the closet and "act straight," when in the real world of the NHL, there are more women than out gay men who suited up for a game.

36 years ago these women were shot and killed at school.
They should be retired, grammas, red hatters, walking dogs, snuggling cats, arguing, laughing, crying, enjoying life.

There is still and always will be a war against women and children.

Our govt is collaborating..
We all know that ICE is violating human rights in the U.S.

But did you know a Canadian company is profiting off ICE? And that this same company has been ramping up its lobbying efforts?

Now, in my latest for @thetyee.ca, the government won't tell me if this is a red line for procurement:

Kindness requires empathy and compassion. Niceness is a performance. Canadians are nice but not kind. I wish this country would be real with itself. It’s always been a mirage of some sort of accessible utopia and it’s not

The way to read the Canada-Alberta MOU is that Carney is using the Trump effect as political cover to pursue the deregulatory agenda he’s long wanted. I spoke with @naomiaklein.bsky.social who called it a classic example of the shock doctrine.
Did the climate world misread Carney?
Many in the climate movement saw a fellow traveller in Mark Carney — the man who could preach climate action in the language of finance — but what if they were wrong from the very start?
