CDC's @drdebhoury.bsky.social calls on Congress to act.

"It is a purposeful reshaping of CDC away from evidence-based practice & toward ideology-driven governance...I did not resign to make a symbolic point. I resigned because staying silent would have made me complicit." time.com/7338714/dr-d...

This is exactly what happens when a novel seasonal influenza strain meets a population with Covid-induced immune dysregulation; it's not 'like Covid again', it's the ongoing and continuous effects of Covid.

4 Dec: Old lore tells that when Mary gave birth, the stable was bitterly cold. With no dry logs, a shepherd cut fresh ash wood. Green wood should not burn, yet the logs blazed. Folk say that’s why ash, however green, still burns brightly, and brings us welcome warmth to this day.

After a disastrous Midwestern outbreak early this year, we tested that theory and found that where the wind blew, the virus followed.

Yes, I know NYT played the story prominently on its homepage for a while yesterday. But its print play is a more deliberate sign of what it thinks is important. This is a 5-alarm fire, with a racist criminal running the country. Responsible news orgs need to act like that's a huge problem. 2/🧵

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

it's so disheartening to see the huge number of pupils who struggle with basic reading skills: 40+ percent! why in the world are alarm bells not going off about a third of students being chronically absent from school? the pandemic was a handy scapegoat. what's the excuse now? we are failing kids.
