"Vi lever i en värld där vi inte längre vet var sanningen finns." säger Ignacio Ramonet, chefred Le Monde Diplomatique, i en intervju jag läser, varefter han klagar över medieföretagens jakt på snabba "nyheter" framför eftertänksam journalistik. När artikeln skrevs? 30 november 2000.

A participant in the nonstop protest in Telavi, Georgia, was forced to sell his car due to financial hardship — his only source of income.

Fellow protesters from Kvemo Kartli stepped in. 51 people raised GEL 2,500 (≈ USD 900), bought the car back, and returned it to him.

A good point for any country; if you complain about the sitting government, make sure the opposition is able to oust them and can do a better job. IMHO many countries today have weak opposition without visions other than ”same but with us the top”.
A good rule of thumbs is that if a country doesn't have a strong enough opposition to unseat their own dictator, they don't have a strong enough opposite to fill the power vacuum if you do it for them. Something you'd think the US would have learned after like the 15th time this century.

As is the tradition; time to make predictions for next year: do you think Democratic politicians will be arrested for … ahem … Trumped-up … crimes, and will it be before elections, or after they have won?

⚠️ Reading can seriously damage your ignorance! 📕 👀
Just discovered an insane new form of co-intelligence where you briefly share the mind of a great thinker in history and then a portion of their mind travels in yours for the rest of your life. Calling it a "book."

I am planning a OSRish campaign (because I don’t have enough #ttrpg projects) in the tone of Nils Gulliksson. I am thinking of using Rolemaster, but the magic system is terrible. Inventing my own is a bit too complicated, any suggestions? I like defined spells but where the effect can be moderated.

I spent about an hour total making ChatGPT and Copilot to create a list of all Benedictine abbeys in England with GPS. Copilot gave me a list of 168, with 67 made up. When I uploaded them to umap, I found out the GPS was rounded and inaccurate. I need to redo it all, by hand this time. Ridiculous!

This is how I envision #dnd players who only play one system. There are so many wonderful #trrpg out there!
"You want to play Uno?"

<glancing over at Twilight Imperium, the only board game on my shelf, and assuming all board games work just like that>

"Nah. I don't want to have to learn a whole new system."

Every single day, for one full year!
For a year now, Georgians have protested every single day in 8+ cities.
120+ people have been jailed for years. Most opposition leaders are in prison, and opposition parties are expected to be banned. Peaceful protest has been criminalized.

Yet, we're still here. Keep an eye on our big rally today.

One does not need to go all geolocating @josemonkey.com , but even locating 20 years old vacation photos is a challenge. I know the photo was taken in London, but where?! Street view doesn’t help when shops change names, and new houses are built.

It is wonderful when protesters use humour to ridicule the government, it makes the violent response all the more blatant and inexcusable. The fortitude and persistence of the Georgia protesters is astonishing.
In Georgia, people are now being arrested for… wait for it… squeaking a rubber duck at the police.

According to journalists on the ground, this is the only apparent reason for the arrest of Vano Skhirtladze at tonight’s protest.

Day 358 of nonstop protests.

Ännu en man med en egen modell för universum. Han tycker att F&F ska ta in hans arbete, trots att jag meddelat att vi bara rapporterar om publicerad forskning.

Quite plausible.
Prediction: Trump signs the Epstein bill Friday afternoon and the DOJ immediately announces it cannot release the files because they are either Confidential or part of an active investigation. Story dies over the weekend. GOP talking point: we passed the bill. Time to move on.

Circa 1993, Vernor Vinge wrote that the first working AI would be the last thing that humanity ever invented.

We don't *have* a first working AI, and at this rate—shifting the global economy to run atop spicy autocomplete trained on 4chan—we never will.

But Vernor was right. Just forget "working".

Guilt in full display! I don’t think he feels guilty or ashamed, just out of control and pressured. Keep up the pressure on #epstein !
Apart from being obviously awful you can see from the flash of anger on his face that he is feeling *completely* out of control about this situation. Reminds me of the interview he bailed on in the ESPN 30 for 30, “Who Killed the USFL,” when he was confronted on his failures by a reporter
"Quiet! Quiet, Piggy."
