Living in Minnesota right now is wondering if your patient is late because they got caught in traffic, because they got arrested, or because they got detained and all of these are perfectly plausible and equally likely.

Remember her name: Aliya Rahman

Her testimony is everything and it deserves to be heard, by everyone. Decide for yourself.

It’s powerful. It’s gut-wrenching. And no one should have to survive what she did.

ICE MUST GO‼️

They haven't left; we're still under occupation. Mira speaks plainly and with compassion. I've not yet achieved her "smile and nod" level of calm. Yet.
I had to pause for a bit the first time I edited this piece, because Mira's account of what it actually feels like to be on the ground in Minneapolis — as a journalist, a trans person in poverty and part of communities under siege — hit that hard.

Essential reading, and a much-needed reality check.
TNN reporter Mira Lazine (@thefreeradical.org) found a community in Minneapolis. Now, that community is under attack by a fascist regime — and fighting back.

Here’s her look of the realities on the ground, where exhaustion and terror exist alongside defiance and hope:

"To betray offered hospitality seems, to my agnostic soul, like a mortal sin. I keep trying to see into the minds of those ICE agents, wondering if they had the capacity for gratitude that (to my mind, anyway) always accompanies being served a restaurant meal."
Gonna share this again because it is so well written. @alisoncook.bsky.social

"One of many ICE/BP misdeeds that haunt me involves the ICE agents who ate at a small-town Minnesota Mexican restaurant and then returned at closing time to detain the workers who had provided their meal."
A food writer's sermon
The longest January I remember is over. At last. Even safe in my East End nest, I feel pummeled and bruised—in a spiritual way, which by no means compares to what my brethren in my late mother's birt...

A Powderhorn Park neighbor who has lived in the U.S. since 2003 was kidnapped by ICE because he had to go to work. His wife and 15- and 12-year-old daughters are hoping for his safe return. We are raising donations to help cover the legal fees.

A reminder: In equestrian terms, a "Proud Boy" is a horse that's been poorly castrated, but it's hormonally acting as if it were a stallion. Look it up.

I know this is small compared to what is going on in the larger part of the country.

But if you’re one of the people screaming that players should be paid what they’re worth but don’t hold that same energy for support staff, you’re part of the collapsing capitalist problem, too my dude.

Help me keep this family together. Immigration enforcement has forced this beauty salon on Lake Street to close down. This was the only income for the family and now they need our help with rent, utilities, food, and basic necessities to protect their daughters.

MPLS is also very much a city of distinct neighborhoods. Life in Kenny is pretty different from Kingfield is different from Bryn Mawr is different from Nordeast. But the overarching theme of “we take care of our neighbors” resonates throughout the metro.

Utilized the Minneapolis bloc! 10/10 recommend; they gifted protection for big humans and smols, and we're SO grateful for the options they've offered us, keeping everyone safe
N95s offer superior protection against flu and Covid.

They can protect your health and the health of those around you.

Many people also find them much more comfortable than surgical masks.

If you can’t afford them, look for your local mask bloc.

If you can afford them, please donate!

M.A. Vecchio was not a college student, a teacher or a journalist. She was a 14yo runaway who was on campus when Jeffrey Miller (20, slain) was gunned down during a protest of the Vietnam war's expansion into Cambodia. This was 50yrs ago. They will kill us because they don't know what else to do.
