for some context for this threadlet, Mitt Romney, who is rich (estimated net worth $235 million), spends $1.7 million/yr on personal security. Someone with some millions is very much a target, but can't afford to protect themselves like Romney can.

there are a lot of wealthy (not rich, but wealthy) people who really need to figure out that enabling this behavior puts them at risk for kidnapping for ransom. I don't think most of them have internalized where this sort of thing leads to.

Just some creepy armed Mad Max guys trying to gain entry to Dodgers Stadium.

ICE says it wasn’t them. DHS says they were Border Patrol. But honestly who the hell knows? They’ve given permission for any psycho to put on a ski mask, point a gun, grab people & throw them into an unmarked vehicle.

Now that I know what they are, I’m crushing them! But they are everywhere. 😢

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

There are several problems with appealing and deferring to the authority of the expert class. First, so-called experts have no license to countermand the "wisdom, fairness, or logic of legislative choices." FCC v. Beach Communications, Inc., 508 U. S. 307, 313 (1993). Second, contrary to the representations of the United States and the private plaintiffs there is no medical consensus on how best to treat gender dysphoria in children. Third, notwithstanding the alleged experts' view that young children can provide informed consent to irreversible sex-transition treatments, whether such consent is possible is a question of medical ethics that States must decide for themselves. Fourth, there are particularly good reasons to question the expert class here, as recent revelations suggest that leading voices in this area have relied on questionable evidence, and have allowed ide-logy to influence their medical guidand

To that end, I found Justice Thomas's concurrence on medical care for transgender youth quite illuminating. He argues that many of our so-called
"experts" have used bad arguments anc substandard science to push experimental therapies on our youth.

Things to do today in #Virginia:
1) Vote in the primary. (I voted early.)
2) Listen to any of Paradise Lost's first five albums. (n/p: "Icon")
3) Donate to a food bank/drive or make an appointment to donate blood if you're eligible. (Did the former Saturday, scheduling the latter.)
4) Watch results.

My sign today for the Charlottesville #NoKings protest. I couldn’t let the news about the ACIP go without comment.
Lots of older folks similar to the hands off protest from May. But I was glad to see more younger protesters this time!
Protest sign reading we need vaccines not kings with a gold crown covered by a red x.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.

The Declaration of Independence specifies 27 grievances with King George III, and I count at least 15 of them that Donald Trump has also committed in whole or in part.

Particularly notable right now:
"He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures."
Screenshot of a list of the 27 specific grievances against King George III in the Declaration of Independence. Donald Trump has committed at least 15 of them in whole or in part, highlighted in yellow and listed below:
"1.	He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
2.	He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
3.	He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither (partial offense)
4.	He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
5.	He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
6.	He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
7.	He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
8.	He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
9.	For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
10.	For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
11.	For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
12.	For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:
13.	(Partial offense), abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
14.	(Partial offense), and destroyed the lives of our people.
15.	He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and (partial offense)"

The world is tough right now bc a few selfish, intolerant folks are making it so. Buy a national parks pass to support national parks. Donate to a local election for someone who consistently stands up for truth. Support abortion providers, immigration lawyers, humanitarian work. Don't let evil win.

BREAKING: RFK Jr. fires ACIP, the panel responsible for advising on vaccines.

This breaks a promise to Sen. Bill Cassidy, who voted to advance Kennedy as HHS secretary on the condition that he would, among other things, keep ACIP in place.

This is absolutely terrible news.

With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately.
