Very true. There are Reasons that I spend so much time banging on about properly implementing safeguarding and harassment prevention programs in academia and in the broader science and tech community.
Trust me, the woman of academia are not at all surprised by the number of academic men orbiting Epstein.

But strip away the lewd and crude content, and they also reveal much about how patriarchy works day to day.”

We're looking to capture experiences of what it means to be queer in the UK today! To do that we're collecting day diaries for 12th February. It doesn't matter what you get up to, or how you record it, we'd love to have it!🧵 (1/4) #LGBTplusHM #lgbthm26
In 1982, inspired by the work of MO the National Lesbian and Gay survey began, it sought to capture what everyday life was like for queer people living in the UK. For our latest open call we're continuing the work of NLGS and asking what does it mean to be queer every day?

We’ll start with an explainer covering:

🕒What is a 15-minute city
🏫What on Earth is going on with Oxford
👽Where the conspiracy theories have come from

And then we’ll look at the Telegraph article

If this is true then the questions about Mandelson’s vetting are only going to get worse
The "coincidence" of Epstein's cash payments to Peter Mandelson's partner/husband in 2009/10 and the then industry secretary's lobbying within cabinet for a softer post-crash policy towards bankers looks on the face of it like outright corruption. Certainly demands police investigation.

Fascinating to see how the intellectual core of Silicon Valley seems oblivious to how Stakhanovism did not actually save the Soviet Union
A form of masculinity so arid, so devoid of pleasure, so dedicated to the accumulation of capital (for someone else) that it subsists on 12 hour days 6 days a week, and workouts and rejuvenation and Chinese peptides the rest of the time.

It’s really easy to make an academic website with GitHub:

(1) Find a template & fork it
github.com/topics/acade...

(2) Add your info (often just markdown). All you need is (short!) bio, contact info, CV, and your paper(s) or posters.

(3) Host for free with GitHub
docs.github.com/en/pages/qui...
This has also been an issue for talk invitations. Lab pages need emails, and grad student need websites.
A plea from an editor:

postdocs & grad students who want to review manuscripts, please (!) have an online presence with your current email. I try to solicit reviews from ECRs, but we all move a lot, and it's hard to know if we'll be able to reach you at the email address on your last paper 🧪🌍

Community renewal both improves quality of life and increases trust in democratic institutions.

So yes, it is an important part of the democratic as well as social fabric.

It *must* be alongside local government renewal - fiscal power - to avoid the mistakes of the big society.

I don't think really even think this is the fault of the Chinese brands per se, who are just responding to the incentives set up by American retailers like Amazon and Wal-Mart, who replaced the traditional retailer vetting of product quality with "marketplaces" where there's no quality filter at all
