Any loon you hear screaming about "boys in girls sports" will always justify it by saying they're "protecting" women and girls when in fact the opposite always is the result

This is our new Irish President, she shared this on Transgender Day of Remembrance… fair play 💕🏳️‍⚧️
Thank you, President Connolly for caring for our #Trans family and friends 🥰

@teni.bsky.social don't seem to use their bsky account so I'm posting this over here from their facebook because people should see it: one of the first things our new President Connolly did last week was write the community a letter for TDOR 🏳️‍⚧️

It's been a hard month hearing we're gonna lose some of Limerick's best small businesses
I'm very sad to see Silke's in Limerick is closing. That back room of theirs is an Aladdin's cave of crafty bits and bobs. I love wandering through it.

What bothers me is that impartiality and balance are two different and incompatible things. Impartiality means that you don't intervene to put your thumb on the scales. Balance necessarily requires that you intervene to artificially make every issue look like a 50/50.

CMAT could write Antihero but Taylor could never write Eurocountry
I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

the EU parliament is looking for a native-level irish speaker for a press officer traineeship, starting next march

it's paid (€1660/month, no tax) and is a pretty sweet opportunity to see how the EU sausage is made, and a chance to try brussels (if you're not already here)

deadline end of october!

The presidential opinion poll shows that the celebrity candidate is a lottery and that, as ever, Fine Gael’s candidate melts away as soon as they come into contact with people who are paid less than €85k a year.
It also shows media framing is less important than ever before. Good.

One of my favourite council reports to write so far this year - Local councils have no place telling the LGFA “what they should do” regarding their policy on transgender athletes playing the sport

I'm a disgusting nerd for my job but I have never looked forward to reporting on a council meeting more as I do this one on Monday (except maybe the South Dublin one next Friday)
The list of people going before Dublin City Council seeking the presidential nomination is bleak.

I would like to cautiously report that it's over a week now since EP and I haven't come down with life-threatening flu, yet
It's not a EP experience if I don't come down with 2 weeks of the flu and a delusion-inducing fever cos my immune system can't cope with three nights sleeping on the ground in a crappy tent

This nation owes CMAT a debt we can never repay
Is Bertie Ahern referencing CMAT?

In the recording, he complains criticisms and “falsehoods” against him “intensified, pushed by a handful and reached a new generation. That’s not good.”

Remember JB did an interview where he complained that there were too many Irish novelists writing about sad, horny Trinity students wandering through storylines that flaunted the author's right-on political opinions... and he rang the journo later that day to beg them to add "he didn't mean Sally"
You really aren't going to get a better example of how the British media works than the contrasting coverage of two Irish authors this week.

The brave and sensitive transphobe John Boyne vs the vile and hateful opponent of genocide Sally Rooney.
