If you're a fiction author writing quoted speech, I beg of you, please don't attempt to write "funny" local accents phonetically, be they Scottish, Irish, Bahamian, Chinese, or whatever.
No matter how amusing it seems to you, no good will come of it. Especially don't do it with perceived vowels.

But taking it seriously seems just... bizarre. I get wanting to avoid Christmas music in general, but wanting to avoid one specific perfectly inoffensive song and getting angry if you can't? Makes no sense.

I succeeded at Whamageddon for about thirteen years straight, accidentally (don't interact with broadcast media much, don't go into town much around Xmas, spent every Xmas from 2006-19 on a farm in Minnesota with my Boomer then-in-laws who didn't know about modern music like Wham)

So I like how eccentric the breath weapons for the new dragons in #pathfinder2e become the further away from DND they get.

"This is a red dragon it breathes fire."

"Well this is a Wish Dragon it breathes contentment then cruelly takes it away leaving you emotionally devastated"

YES YES YES YES. This is a pet peeve of mine and the fastest way to make me stop reading/playing.

Don't punish your readers for paying attention, or they'll stop doing that.
I'm always confused when writers change the plot because a reader figured out what was coming. Surely that's good? Surely that means the breadcrumbs have been laid out appropriately?

Speaking from experience (I work in procurement), someone needed a Specific Thingy. They asked ChatGPT, which spat out the wrong part number. I had to spend 30 minutes convincing them it WAS the wrong part number and 5 minutes calling the human vendor who knew exactly what we needed.

This is me politely asking you all to review this skeet and, as a result, think twice before engaging in "smell-this 'activism.'"

DID YOU SEE THIS AWFUL THING THIS AWFUL MAN SAID

HOW ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE GUY, ISN'T IT HE TERRIBLE

OK, so... why are you his street team? Why are you signal-boosting?
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

And this is why we fight. This shit won't last long at this rate. If they keep racking up half-TRILLION dollar loss projections, even the most bullish, fascist-ass weirdo billionaire is going to have to stop to keep from losing his shirt.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Just a quiet, sad little PSA.

If someone is estranged from their parents, please please don’t give them the ‘but they’re your mum/ dad’

They were their mum / dad when they did the worst imaginable things to their own kids.

It’s not up to the children to make it ok. It’s up to them to live well.

while we are at it: regular reminder that in scotland, legally, both under older legislation and uncrc, parents do not have *rights* they have *responsibilities*. it's children who have rights.

"parents' rights" are as made up as "sex based rights" and for the same reasons
That MSPs are now openly saying stuff like this is chilling. "Controversial groups like LGBT Youth Scotland"? LGBTYS didn't need to be in my schools for me to be gay, but they sure as hell would have helped me avoid 9 years of fear and self-loathing if they had been. Despicable stuff.

Ze ging van 3x in de week waterpolo spelen en de hele dag bezig zijn naar een tiener die nauwelijks kan lopen en niet naar school kan 💔

It fucking matters what is considered debatable within an organisation. You will *never* see a Your Party conference debate on, say, whether we should have an NHS because it is simply unimaginable that anybody would argue against within YP.

So many people who imagine themselves to be Marxists have a deeply liberal and idealist understanding of transphobia. It's not a debate, it's a power struggle and if you aren't willing to clearly take trans people's side, you are a scab.
Nah, bullshit tbh. You don't deal with the presence of transphobes by debating them. That the guy arguing no felt comfortable doing so and wasn't immediately heckled into silence speaks to a fundamental fucking rot.

As someone who works on the interaction layer of software: it's this.

Stupid trends in hardware self correct after a generation or two, but *software* ratchets in the direction of unusable because designers are occupied with interaction patterns and not whether the fucking thing works properly.
i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago
