Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress have realized that they can spend their time doing *absolutely nothing* and face no consequences. Until a few of them lose their jobs nothing will change.

Farewell, Diane Keaton. Truly one of a kind. I loved watching her on screen. Got to see her on Broadway in Play It Again, Sam when she was young.

I think that's where it gets harder for Democrats. Republicans will convince themselves that Trump *has* accomplished the things he talked about. Or they'll just blame the Democrats and give him a pass. One thing they will never do is turn against him.

Agreed. I don't think the writer is saying that Trump and Mamdani are the same but that they bring out the same kind of devotion in voters and that's something Democrats can try to copy. Brad Lander, another mayoral candidate, probably had good ideas but lacked the charisma.

This is a very good read. It reminds me of 2008 when Obama's primary was based on rhetoric and vibes without much policy about HOW. I voted for HRC because she was a policy wonk, but it was my first real understanding of how powerful vibes can motivate apathetic voters.

This is an interesting comparison. "The appeal they make to voters, and the way voters respond, is uncannily similar."

I read the column to be more like: Here's how Democrats can inspire the same level of passion as Trump does, but a different type of passion, without the hatred and lying and chaos.

From the NYT article: The code of conduct for federal judges requires them to act in ways that promote “public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.”

Is there a similar requirement for Supreme Court justices or are they exempt from the code of conduct?

But the MIT president also says the university meets or exceeds the White House demands. So are they standing up to Trump or saying hey, we're already onboard with what you want us to do?

Wow, I'm so glad! My other suggestion was going to be call your state rep. or senator. You can keep those in reserve!

Just finished Janice Hallett's The Killer Question, which I loved. I've read three of her mysteries and enjoyed them all but I think this is my favorite. Now I'm starting Mick Herron's Clown Town.

Congratulations! Sounds like they will have a loving family to support them every step of the way.

Evidently, President Trump got all the proof he needs that vaccines are safe and effective. He voted with his arm yesterday and got the highly beneficial Covid and flu shots. Amid the sea of confusion RFKJ has generated about vaccines, all Americans should know that Trump is getting vaccinated.

Last month Trump said he wanted proof that COVID vaccines are effective. Yesterday, during his "semiannual" physical, Trump received a COVID vaccine as well as a flu shot.

That's because vaccines — which Trump's administration have made harder to get — work.

I liked the first couple of seasons but I think it took a wrong turn when they tried to turn a sandwich shop into a fancy restaurant.

Finished Season 4 of The Bear and I think I'm done with that show. I'm tired of all the emotional drama when I just wanted a show about running a restaurant.

My sympathy to you and your family. This is a beautiful column and it reminds me that I still have some of my mother's cookbooks and recipe cards. I never read the cookbook text that closely but I remember the recipes always called for a lot of Crisco!

I have never jumped at reviewing a film quicker. The Netflix documentary WHO KILLED THE MONTREAL EXPOS is totally my jam. It's a heartbreaking tribute to a fanbase that deserves to get their team back.

I live in a much smaller state but I figure the New York governor's office must have people whose job it is to take calls from frustrated constituents!

I overthink this way too much but sometimes before reskeeting I'll see if we have a lot of mutuals. I don't want to reskeet something people have already seen. Or I'll wait an hour before reskeeting, figuring they may have missed it. I like finding something *original* to reskeet but that's hard.

I'm not in New York but when I had trouble getting through to my state's department of labor, I contacted the governor's office and they got a human being to call me back.

The NYT says the troops are *not* going to be in Gaza: The officials said the U.S. Central Command, led by Adm. Brad Cooper, will establish a civil-military coordination center in Israel to provide security and humanitarian support.

I've read 3 mysteries by Janice Hallett and enjoyed them all but The Killer Question, a very twisty story set in the world of British pub quizzes, is my favorite. I love how she stitches together emails, group chats, texts, police reports, even the weekly quiz subjects. #Booksky #Books #Fridayreads
Cover of The Killer Question, by Janice Hallett, internationally bestselling author of The Appeal. Mug full of beer, a pencil and a drawing of a skeleton are on the cover along with the tag line: The answer is murder. The question is whodunit?
