New analysis from Peter Kellner suggests the UK now has a clear pro-Rejoin majority – driven by generational change and millions of Leave voters switching sides.

Brexit: can Starmer seize this demographic opportunity?
Demography and disillusion join to give the government a real opportunity to transform our relations with the EU. Will Starmer dare seize it?

New analysis shows:

That there are now more people alive in the UK that voted Remain in 2016 than those who voted Leave in 2016.

The "will of the people" expressed by direct vote in 2016... has changed.
The majority opposed to Brexit has reached eight million
Ministers need courage to keep it that way

May all his teeth drop out bar one, and may it give him toothache.
A constant blazing terror that somewhere, somebody might be getting a free cheese sandwich. Or indeed brief use of a wheelchair.

True. Your creativity plummets without good sleep.
Nobody tells you how important *sleep* is to writing a book.

They know they're good looking?
The looks; the mooing… all because they had to walk a 100 metres to get their breakfast 🙄😂

Pleasing thread.
I feel compelled to write a review thread 🧵 for The Liz Truss Show because in the madness of the content, other aspects - vital aspects - are being missed.

1. The Aesthetics

Unless they were aiming for "Harley Street urologist waiting room circa 1992" this interview area is just unacceptable. 1/

Here I am with Reform councillor Andrew Harrison, who was one of a group of people fined over £1m for employing illegal workers. Like all good patriots, he hates immigrants, apart from the ones he can exploit for profit.

my great-grandparents arrived in the UK in the 1890s with nothing.
they sold pickles from the front room window, took in laundry, worked as tailors.
their children were nurses, teachers, salesmen.
their grandchildren were professors, designers, opticians, doctors, magistrates, entrepreneurs.
This is so disgusting.

We can always rely on The Home Office to f*ck up, can't we?
This is so disgusting.

As a journalist you’re always looking for ways to sum up the now, but the story is really often more incremental. This is from a Derbyshire county council paper. I was, inevitably, looking for “library to close” or “doge identified £Xm”, but the starting point is at least as important

I put it to you that Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” is not merely the worst Christmas song but is also in fact the worst song in the history of recorded sound.

Been to see Othello at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket today, with David Harewood as Othello and Toby Jones as a particularly vile Iago.
Loved it. Absolute cracker. Really worth seeing.

Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇
