How are the folks in the Southern states coping with the temperatures this week?

I hope everyone is doing okay.

I hope you have whatever mitigation strategies in place to keep cool.

Remember to stay hydrated and to check in on your oldies.

Nicholls doesn’t care about evidence. He’s pushing this anti-trans agenda to appeal to the far right.

Now it’s up to us.

Together we need to organise in our communities across the continent to win a trans health system that works for our community.

I agree that neither the humanities nor STEM are more important or pure or whatever than the other: the thing is that we need BALANCE between the two poles, and we have very much lost that in modern U.S. society today.

I once accused my mum of having an arty-farty humanities degree. She never let me forget it.

I wish she were still around, I would apologise to her profusely.
Indeed, I think a core part of our problem right now is that people with humanities degrees and humanities jobs have felt obligated to constantly *apologize* for it for a long time now.

If confirmed, this death will be the second Indigenous death in custody in Kalgoorlie-Boulder in less than a year, after the death of 31-year-old Linton Ryan in April 2025.

There have been 620 Indigenous deaths in custody since the 1987 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody (RCIADIC)

Whenever shit gets bad (fascism/terrorism/climate change/natural disasters), I tend to go quiet.

Partly so the important voices aren't drowned out, and partly because my petty problems don't compare.

Using those words on here is also a form of circumventing people's muted terms. Folks mute things for a variety of reasons including managing their trauma.

Say the word you mean.
Now that TikTok has changed ownership in the U.S., it's as good a time as ever to again say how much I truly hate algospeak euphemisms like "unalived" and whatnot. I wish people would knock that off.

*sighs* I deleted TikTok.

I am not happy about it. I got a lot of information about Autism and Disability communities from there.

I'm not convinced that any platform is "safe," but I guess some are clearly unsafer than others.

One recent life improvement for the mostly bedbound #MEcfs person in our household:

An electric bidet toilet seat, Japanese style.

You do need a powerpoint nearby. They're not cheap, around 800-1000 Australian dollars.

(Disability insurance paid for ours in Australia, thank you.)

I want to send love to my American friends.

I've been distraction posting. Not because I am not shocked by current circumstances, but because I want to offer some respite.

Please take care out there.

The cashier at the shops was called Jack, but I misread his name tag as Jock.

I got so excited to be in the presence of someone so important as to be called Jock.

Not Big Jock, or Wee Jock, or Medium-Sized Jock,

I was discussing superpowers with a friend, and they suggested teleportation.

I thought that was the perfect choice for them.

Teleportation would mean you wouldn't have to drive, and no matter where you were, you could always poop at home.
