I think they're garlic grinders or something, but they affix to the table and you turn a handle to either rotate a drum in the front or grind whatever's in a sort of basin they've got - which means they all have wide bases, thin forward-leaning necks and robot heads with different kinds of mouth. The name for all of these is given as "SPONG"

For me this relates back to David Graeber's "bullshit jobs": there's a lot of stuff in corporate land that was meaningless before AI came along, and a machine for slop is ideal for meeting the "need".

(another) follow up appointment because the double ear infection has gone, but my right ear is absolutely hosed. everything is permanently muffled, my ears pop if i move into different positions, and most high register instruments are now doing a john cena impression unless i'm on top of the speaker

There are two very different ways to say "Never heard of it!"

1. "I, a person of great taste and importance who has heard of everything good, have never heard of this thing, hence it must be a bag of wank."

2. "Tell me more. I love finding out about new things, especially if they are brilliant."

I can never understand why some people view "Never heard of it!" as a withering insult. Loads of things virtually nobody has ever heard of are brilliant. Not all things virtually everybody has heard of are total dogshit, but my empirical research has demonstrated to me that a vast number are.
