Toronto politicians force most development onto main streets where places like The Imperial & United Bakers is then…try to stop housing there. Classic. Private space is sacrosanct. Public spaces are easily lost.

Dear Canada,

Stop waiting for a Black 3M Aura.

This black BreatheTeq KN95 headband mask just arrived, and is available for purchase on Canada Strong!

It's made in Canada, too!

Elbows up, neighbour 💪

ok, i love this album and i'm mad i never tried it in full before. i guess "roundabout" just overshadows the rest of it. but man, this could have been in my library the whole time!

unfortunately, sometimes a thing is popular not because everyone is wrong but because the thing is good

as a passion project, nick andert's long, well-produced, meticulously complete videos dedicated to local transit advocacy and discussion are so impressive. i've never lived in LA, but i'm compelled to watch each one.

and i'm just about sold on this vision for vermont avenue!

people mix them up all the time, but it's not difficult to understand the difference between lie and lay.

to lie is intransitive, as in "eat hot chip and lie"
to lay is transitive, as in "lays potato chips"

i found this map on the spanish wikipedia page for the guaraní language, but i can't find anything online about guaraní speakers in ottawa. anyone know what that's about?

change is hard for torontonians, but this is unambiguously good. "dundas station" could be anywhere along dundas street, which is tens of km long. TMU is more unique, more precise, and more intuitive for new and occasional riders. plus, naming stations for landmarks and neighbourhoods scales better
The TTC just announced that Dundas Station will be renamed, simply to “TMU.”

since REM opened this weekend, this is all i can think about.

toronto has been building a smaller, 'lower-order' transit project that costs significantly more and is taking twice as long to complete 🫠

The emergency brake on this train says "FINE FOR MISUSE" so I guess it's okay if you want to mess with it

The biggest chunk of the REM in Montreal has just opened, and I’ve been reflecting not only on what it means for Montreal, but for Canada as a whole. Read my latest article now:

Is the REM the Future of Canadian Transit Expansion?

There's two more days to speak up against cuts to federal transit funding.

No such thing as "Canada Strong" without transit linking our communities.

Tell the Carney government to protect and expand the Canada Public Transit Fund and fund transit operations for more affordable & frequent service ⬇️

If you don't already agree that there's a moral panic over transgender care, just read the New York Times' articles on hormone therapy for cis people and compare them to their hit pieces on the hormone therapy for trans people.

i'm still masking. indoor air is still unclean and people are constantly getting sick all sorts of ways. no thank you!

the woke part, of course, is recognizing that each covid infection has the potential to do lasting and even lethal damage, especially to immunocompromised people around me
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

100% of starbucks's presence in my mind these days is attributable to messages telling me not to go to starbucks, and i'd bet this is true for a good chunk of people

The neighbourhood retail report as amended CARRIES 23-2.

Toronto Council votes to permit corner stores in all Old Toronto & East York wards, and expands permission for retail on some (but not all) major streets city-wide.
