I'm starting a list of what will be required during the Second Reconstruction, which will hopefully not become the failure that the first Reconstruction was after the first Civil War. I'll update this list as it occurs to me, but for now, these are what's on the top of my head
Let's get started...

In Ukraine, when a funeral procession with a fallen soldier goes by, everyone stops whatever they are doing to stand silently. Traffic stops. Public transportation stops. Conversation stops.

In Lviv, people take this tradition a step further. Most people the procession passes take a knee.

Mamdani: "I speak of Renee Good, whose final words to the man who murdered her were, 'I'm not mad at you.' I speak of Alex Pretti who died as he lived, caring for the stranger. ICE shot him bc he did something they could never fathom ... let us offer a new path: one of defiance through compassion."

sounds like a cool presidential platform
AOC: We are going to have to reckon, as a country, with this time. And I hope that that reckoning includes prosecution of people who are involved with the lawbreaking and human rights violations they are knowingly engaging in right now.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

“great replacement” is a white supremacist conspiracy theory that has been cited in NUMEROUS mass shootings including buffalo topps and el paso walmart

furthermore, what we are seeing in MN is a direct result of that hateful racist rhetoric manufacturing consent and democrats should be saying that
"That's just not true, as you well know" -- Sen. Chris Coons is a bit taken aback after CNBC's Joe Kernen pushes the great replacement theory during an interview

No one has yet talked in depth about Mamdani's play- as in, a childlike wonder and ceaseless fun and joy. That is rooted in what he learned from his mom about acting, which is pure play. Everything he does is rooted in encouraging US to be more playful, too. It's wonderful.
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

I want people to understand this.

For many of them, democracy ended when Obama was elected twice and Black Lives Matter rose to prominence.

This is them “fixing” a system that felt broken and newly unsafe to them.
What we all seemingly failed to understand is just how many of our "countrymen" were perfectly willing to resort to treason to end democracy. And all in service of a convicted felon and lifelong conman who wasn't even very good at it.

Trump and the Republicans are trying to rig the election. That's not being a "doomer," that's acknowledging reality.
Democrats need a coordinated, national response to these coordinated, national attacks. We need an "Elections Czar"
My latest solution in @thenation.com
Democrats Need to Get Serious About Stopping Trump From Rigging the Midterms
Here’s one idea for a coordinated response to Trump’s coordinated attacks.

RFK is using his position to push things that have never shown any benefit in autism & have shown serious harms, including numerous dead kids thru the years. Why push for things known to harm instead of looking for things that could actually provide benefit? Because the harmful things are profitable

I'm pretty sure I spoke with one of these AI voice bots last week
My autistic brain found it unsettling, partly because phone conversations are hard for me as it is, but it was even weirder bc all the responses were canned yet lacking the usual and very human fatigue of delivering canned responses
I legit don’t know if I will ever get past this ad I saw walking to an appt this morning in soho. And yes, it’s a company that uses human sounding AI voice bots to take over your customer service calls.

Amazing. If a professional wrestling crowd is chanting "fuck ICE," it suggests to me that large swaths of the culture are not just upset over ICE tactics, they're coalescing against mass deportations as a broader ideological project.

I'd love it but a lot of the people with enough money to pony up for a Super Bowl ad just 'cos are in the Epstein files tho
A bus stop near Tesla's flagship store in London. Imagine a Super Bowl ad that showed only this.

I’m on the scene at Franklin and 1st. A convoy of about a couple dozen ICE/HSI agents broke the entryway into an apartment building at 6am. No warrant presented. Less than 24 hours ago, Tom Homan announced the end of large convoys in Minnesota… Bullshit.

Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

Just quietly and consistently moving around (at least in NH) taking people in ones or small groups.

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Oh thank god another thing for women to feel guilty and bad about themselves for:
“You're taking a very vulnerable, very highly motivated population of patients and targeting them with information that is kind of driven by financial incentives.”
The cultural obsession with wellness and optimization, which is currently driven and designed by male biohackers, has come for the murky pre-conception period, coined “The Zero Trimester” by sociologist Miranda Waggoner in her 2017 book by the same name. www.wired.com/story/pregna...
