An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

The incredible ‘Orkney Hood’ from Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

So well preserved it looks like it was woven yesterday rather than some 1,500 years ago!

It’s thought the hood was made for a child. Found in 1867 in a peat bog in St Andrews Parish, Orkney.

So bloody typically Irish
Just 10% of Ireland’s historic landfills have been certified over 15 years since the regulations were introduced.

@investigates.thejournal.ie found over 260 of these sites have been left in limbo despite a risk of some leaking toxic waste into waterways.

Imagine being a teenager from Afghanistan who managed to somehow find a way out of the violent chaos that our "developed" countries unleashed on them before fucking off back home, and then you end up getting beaten bloody by thick pricks in Brittas fucking Bay
Horrible story, and I hope those assholes are caught and dealt with

And while I certainly blame far right agitators, Facebook etc, and sleeveens like McGuirk/Gript for fomenting this kind of awful stuff, Simon Harris and others in government need to take a hard look at themselves and their rhetoric
Asylum seekers have told of how they were followed by men on motorcycles before being subjected to an alleged attack in rural Co Dublin yesterday.

The incident – which saw the young men beaten and their car windows smashed – has been condemned.

Breaking news: Government officials said they are increasingly concerned that the Trump administration intends to scapegoat the military officer who directed U.S. forces to kill survivors of a targeted strike on suspected drug smugglers in Latin America.
Hegseth, with White House help, tries to distance himself from boat strike fallout
As Congress vows accountability, the Trump administration emphasized it was a top military commander — not the defense secretary — who directed the engagement.

We are living in the stupidest timeline. The woman who fails to grasp the basics of academia is rewarded, the professor who was just trying to maintain standards is punished. That ignorant, entitled woman will probably go on unchallenged & graduate. Maybe become a "professor" herself. Cheeses wept
This was handed in for a PSYCH CLASS & when the prof said she didn't use empirical sources but rather submitted op-ed she whined about religious liberty + prof got suspended.

I was a *Religious Studies* major; in my time she would have been rightly BBQ'd had she dared to hand in this absolute drek.
