-Yet when we came back, late, from the Hyacinth garden,
Your arms full, and your hair wet, I could not
Speak, and my eyes failed, I was neither
Living nor dead, and I knew nothing,
Looking into the heart of light, the silence.
When you back that azz up
don't call me big daddy i am working on my weight as best i am able to do so but last week carol brought in those pastries to work and your dinners are so delicious i overeat baby so just call me by my first name when you back that azz up
you a pretty fine woman better make sure you drink enough water, get enough sleep and remember to stretch for longer periods than you used to before engaging in vigorous backing that azz up
You will be visited by three spirits

Wait, this is what they're fighting about? wtf

"Their modern territorial claims stem largely from a 1907 map drawn when Cambodia was under French colonial rule, which Thailand has argued is inaccurate."
Thailand launches airstrikes along border with Cambodia as tensions reignite
Thailand has launched airstrikes along its disputed border with Cambodia. Both countries accuse each other of breaking a ceasefire that halted fighting earlier this year.

Broke: Dems are out of touch

Woke: You need to be a Mensa member to operate a lawnmower
People who have personal cleaners see regular tasks like buying your own groceries or mowing the lawn as some complex mystery

Stop saying "Congress" when you mean "Republicans"
Very annoyed at this.
Congress knows how to use the power of the purse to get what it wants, but refuses to do it to, like, make sure that grants get to Head Start.
Just a total warping of priorities, using the power only in these narrow contexts and never to help poor people
Congress to withhold Pentagon travel funds until it sees boat strike videos
Lawmakers quietly stuck the requirement into their must-pass annual defense policy bill.

I'm developing a kind of cosmopolitan-chauvinism, I guess you could call it anti-feudalism, as a through line in my politics. The peasant-brained and the local landed gentry are the enemy. Sort of funny that this could describe being either rabidly capitalist or communist.

The Constitution says that there must be a Supreme Court with a Chief Justice. Fair enough.

But Congress can set its appellate jurisdiction with simple legislation

Under the Third Reconstruction, John Roberts will hear every single parking dispute in the Northern Mariana Islands
I've come around to the position that a self-enforcing code of ethics and a packed Court is the floor. The goal is the wholesale abolition of the Court. We can figure out something better.
This is the exact same Court that just hand waved "what if somebody who committed insurrection as a matter of fact nonetheless held the office of President because Congress didn't pass enabling legislation" and "what if the President orders people to commit murder", by the way

This was, of course, the ancient view of the Roman Republic.

For a modern republic on the one hand, elites must be accountable to The People but on the other hand elites kind of do need the power to say, 'no, we're not war criming today' or 'climate change is real' or 'plagues are bad.'

It's largely lost today because we've allowed constitutional law to become the exclusive preserve of lawyers, but the original idea of written constitutionalism was partly one of public education, publicity, & (proto-)democracy—people should be able to read & come to know the law which binds them
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

(Checks notes) Holy smokes, one loss against Green Bay really rearranged the board

I know this is going to mark me as an Old but I really resent the argument that 2015 was ten years ago. It's false and somehow slanderous to me, personally

(sotto voce) "What do you mean US high schoolers literally can't conceive of a time when Trump was not the face of the GOP?"

One of the problems with our capitalist overlords these days is they don't care about making money and profit as much as they should.
I mean that mostly sincerely: If they cared more about money than status or authority, we'd be much better off in most respects.
The thing I've never understood about cracking down on adults' access to ADHD medication is the fact that stimulants make people more productive whether they actually have ADHD or not. Shouldn't our capitalist overlords want exactly that?
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Its wild to say this sort of shit about Democrats when the current Republican/MAGA political project is built around cultural supremacist crusade that centers openly trying to destroy the lives of anyone who doesnt sufficiently conform to it
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

This continues to be why I will never give full legitimacy to the "gerontocracy" arguments. The way that Trump is currently being treated by news media makes it exceptionally clear that their main beef with Biden was him being Biden—not his age, physical/mental health, or fitness for the job.
It really is amazing that the president has a noticeable an unexplained physical ailment that is disfiguring his right hand and there's no reporting about it. The White House's line is that it's from Trump shaking too many hands! Something is clearly being covered up.

This summer I took a vacation across five eastern/central European countries that all have significantly smaller citizenries now than they did 35 years ago and let me tell you, Americans simply have no conception of how bleak it is to live in a shrinking country.
I cannot imagine the brain that believes their own citizenship is cheapened by the growth of the American citizenry.

That’s a goddamn triumph. That’s us winning.
Ezra Klein even like "well we can agree 'birth tourism' is a problem," and no, I cannot. My group texts are about sports and kids.
