The Mercator projection also screws over countries close to the equator. Here's an image of Algeria, the massive home of my family, superimposed over the United States. Algeria could fit Texas inside of it three times and have room for more.

Thinking about Ekecheiria- the Olympic Truce - we're participants in the Olympics were required to lay down their arms for the duration of the Games. It was only violated two times in its 600 year history.
