Tragedy of the commons? No, tragedy of the wannabe-aristocracy
It’s not that Libertarians are hard working but rather too lazy and miserly to invest in their communities. It’s a moral rot that is killing America.

You can’t make income inequality a positive. You cannot. You cannot slogan your way out of it.
“Strong floor, no ceiling” is absolutely the type of slogan that a focus group of swing voters will tell you they find appealing after it has been a whole hour and they just want to go home.

It’s a slogan for people convinced this country *really* wants a Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign.

Look at Hemingway and Fitzgerald
Which I think is a good sign they are really losing the cultural battle.
Also that last part is absolutely not true. Every artist hates a bunch of people sometimes including close friends of theirs.

Western (European/USAmerican) powers force the drug trade on poorer countries and then demonize the people who flee the consequences of such.

We love to talk about the Senate Democrats sucking but every single one of them voted against Hesgeth’s confirmation because we already knew he was a bloodthirsty alcoholic who assaults women. These war crimes are not bipartisan. Those fishermen would be alive if Harris won.

I like to imagine that Paul McCartney wrote "Wonderful Christmastime" in a fugue state, and then the cover of "Wonderful Christmastime" is a photo that was taken the first time someone played it for him.

You could replace “Santa Baby” with “Sugar Daddy” in the song and not need to change anything else about the song (though the mentions of the chimney would sound a lot more euphemistic)
Every single version of Santa Baby that I've ever heard is DISTURBINGLY horny, but the Kylie Minogue one is OFF THE CHARTS. I love Kylie Minogue, but she deserved prison. Has anyone EVER recorded a version that doesn't sound like they're actively salivating over Santa's cock, or is that not a thing?

I have a hard time even imagining it with student loans hanging over my head- my first thought was just “pay student loans off”
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

How many of these minimum wage jobs are the same jobs that were considered “essential” during the pandemic? Hmmmm.

Hegseth doesn’t understand that the board game Battleship is not an accurate depiction of how sea warfare should be conducted.
yeah the *House* opening an investigation is imo Hill Rs basically asking Trump to fire Hegseth
There are now bipartisan investigations in both the House and Senate into the administration targeting and killing people in the Caribbean without due process.

across all the variations: the Baum novel, the original film, the Wiz, Wicked (the book), Wicked (the musical), the Great and Terrible, Wicked (the film), Tin Man, the common theme that unites them all is “Americans are especially susceptible to propaganda from conmen and shysters”
One of the things about the Wizard of Oz, and the Oz series in general, is that it's arguably the first big fantasy series heavily steeped in Americana.
one of the core myths of American stories and art. i really enjoyed the documentary “Lynch/Oz” which came out a few years ago, about the ways WoO shows ups in Lynch’s works

How many of us daydream about having a small business in the city - a store, a cafe, whatever - but put it aside as a pipe dream because the odds it would likely be financially ruinous versus viable/profitable are too high to risk?
This is brilliant and exactly the type of policy that cities like NYC need to combat the vast number of empty storefronts that were proliferating in the city. Seriously, one shouldn’t need a trust fund in order to try to start a small business.
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Some changes that they can look forward to:

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"
