Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people from fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.
There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot, must be forced to rot.
The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.

En realidad, es una pinza perfecta: la derecha "liberal" destruye los servicios públicos, empobrece a la población, le bloquea el acceso a la vivienda, etc., y la derecha religiosa ofrece una especie de Paraíso de salvación en el que sentirse acogido y protegido.

Hay algo que me fastidia mucho cuando investigas sobre mujeres artistas (y me refiero a cualquier tipo de arte: literario, pictórico, musical, etc) y es que te das cuenta de que muchas no eran "genias poco valoradas en su época" sino que SÍ se las reconoció y valoró entonces y se las ocultó después⬇️

Poca paradoja. Es de sobra conocido que una economía volcada en el sector turístico/hostelero genera muchos beneficios para muy pocos y precariedad, temporalidad, salarios de miseria, vivienda inaccesible...; explotación y pobreza para las y los trabajadores.

There is something truly remarkable about Generative AI.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
