Want to pull some key stats and findings from this because I think it should be a bit of a game changer for how heritage is viewed by govt. At the moment tbh heritage doesn’t really feature in policy thinking, other than as something of an obligation to protect or even barrier to development. 🧵

Fab opportunity to lead VWT's Board of Trustees and help to continue its wonderful work. It's a brilliant organisation that quietly works in background to do huge things - like bringing pine martens back to England and Wales. Please share and let me know if you'd like a chat (I'm a current Trustee).

Climate change is already damaging the nature, beauty and heritage we care for. Without deep and sustained cuts to emissions, nature faces an even more perilous future and the places people love will continue to suffer.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch says her party would axe legally binding targets to cut emissions.

I feel you. I’m ADHD and it’s a Lot. I just ducked out a little early this evening and I’m trying not to feel too guilty about it.

A classic of following the letter of the manifesto not the spirit of the commitment. No wonder Labour voters feel let down.

If fossil fuels are so great for growth why do the companies producing them need so much subsidy and incentive to get them out of the ground?
georgierose.bsky.social
Oh yes we should definitely build baby build all over our most precious National Parks and landscapes. That's definitely going to help us all have a brighter more prosperous future.

Also if you insist on paying attention to detail, this isnt a duty that has a binding effect on planning decisions.

I love London so much. So much.

Did you know that London has the lowest level of ethnic violence of any city of comparable size in the world?

Multiculturalism has in fact worked here. They just don’t want it to be true because we happen to have a Muslim mayor.

The problem is that no one in their social or media sphere is directly telling them "no, those views are in fact racist".
martinwarne.net
This, from The Londoner yesterday, also features people on the march who claim not to be racists. Though the things they say prove otherwise

90% of the UK newspaper market is controlled by three companies: DMG (Daily Mail et al), News UK (Murdoch), and Reach (the Mirror, Express). This also translates to a huge share (~40%) of online reach.

"The message of the right is truly cutting through" because everyone keeps uncritically platforming it as a logical, organic conclusion, rather than an organised disinformation campaign orchestrated by millionaire tax evaders to hoarde ever more of our wages.

Seems like quite a moment. This morning, the UK was powered entirely by low-carbon energy, it seems.

Yes it's windy and sunny. But it's still a milestone.
wiilp.bsky.social
We could have declared "100% zerocarbon" this morning when renewables+nuclear were generating 100% of UK consumption.

As usual this drove our price down, so exports up, and we had to run gas just to power the exports.

NESO set hard target that ZCO has to include exports as well as UK demand.

I do think maybe we should be making a bigger deal of the world’s richest man calling for the violent overthrow of British democracy.

I’d like to think that maybe we could collectively learn something for how politicising the civil service is going from the States tbh.

Absolutely !!!insane!!! to me that the UK government, lobby and newspapers litigate at length every minor infraction by the BBC, rival newspapers, or what some random columnist has posted. But all of them just carry on not even commenting about this media owner. He’s not hiding, he’s telling you!

One of the signs, looking back, of my ADHD in childhood was a total inability to “track the text” and stick with the class in class reading sessions. I compulsively read ahead to the point where one teacher stopped calling on me to read. I would have found this requirement almost impossible.

When I work with teachers on behaviour we talk about how many expectations it is realistic to expect young people to remember, especially at the start of the year. I have a joke that the optimists say 3 and the pessimists say 1. Nobody ever says 10. 🧵⬇️
