Let me be outraged and annihilated, but may Thy enormous Library be justified, for one instant, in one being.

Hot take: I know lots of people here are anti-AI, but I think this sort of thing will be huge for underserved communities, the elderly, people who have handicaps or who care for those people. It'll also decrease car deaths overall and drunk driving. I like.

This day ten years ago.

On 30 October 2015 the now-destroyed Arecibo radio telescope images this giant skull looming out of the dark of space.

“third time’s the charm”

it’s weird that English has a ritualized response that you say in the specific scenario “something hasn’t worked two times but then it works on the third attempt”

they know, of course. you've grown reclusive, always cutting or scavenging for scrap to cut. they wish you'd ask for help. you never do. but you do accidentally slash your arm BAD and it rattles you big time. you never go back to it. soon you'll look up at the sky and wonder, was it always this blue

I really don’t like cuteass movies where the good guys don’t win. “The protagonist didn’t get what they wanted! Oh what a fun twist!”
I really don't like cuteass crosswords where the full right answer doesn't fit in the space. "We took the same two letters out of six of the answers! Oh what a fun ruse!"

I’ve seen anti-AI ppl on bsky say stuff like “AIs aren’t mysterious or surprising, we know exactly how they generate their responses”, and I’m not sure how that’s much different than saying “people aren’t mysterious or surprising, we know exactly how neurons work”

The struggle itself towards the depths is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Mario happy.
A glitch may occur in Super Mario Galaxy when played on a Nintendo Switch 2 whereby Mario will get stuck in freefall in the tunnel in Gateway Galaxy. The usual failsafe that would kill Mario for falling too long does not activate here, so Mario will tumble forever and never die.

Not sure if this is a hot take, but reading some of these convinces me that people who have not personally raised children tend to overestimate how much control parents have and how predictable children are.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

something that i think is underdiscussed is how the social safety net intermediates helping a person from actually interacting with them. i kinda worry that one of society’s load-bearing practices is the act of offering hospitality to people even if they are annoying as hell

no! the money isn’t the thing that solves the problem!! it’s people who solve the problem!!!! the money gets the people to do the stuff, but you still have to do the stuff!!!!!!!
