I'm seeing a looooot of executives in the past couple of days claiming that players/consumers think regurgitative AI is fine, but I haven't actually seen the players who think that.

Smells like desperation.

Great framing here on the consumer’s perspective of Gen AI. No one’s asking for it. It’s been framed as a very public, player-facing problem-statement… but no problem exists. It’s all internal, and only benefits “stakeholders” at the top (and there’s a strong case for it not benefiting them either)
"No one is angry about games not containing gen AI" is such a hell of a good point. It is incredibly off-putting to many customers, an absolute deal-breaker, yet there is no flip side to that, no consumer base clamouring for it, no demand. They can only try to wear people down into accepting it.
I saw this and had two thoughts,
No one is angry about games not containing gen AI, so if you wanna avoid being a part of the conversation it's easy.
But, since you have decided to weigh in on the conversation I guess we'll see gen AI made cosmetics in helldivers soon then

Specifically the interaction with the cultural fund destroys trust: with players, with government orgs, with communities, and partners. Trust like that isn’t easily rebuilt. If you farm out a cultural touchstone to machines, what are you saying about the people who play your games?
Vote with your wallet. Send the message that this is simply unacceptable. And I hope the German government rakes them over the coals for taking 6M Euros from a cultural fund and then using AI localization.

It’s one Eff You after another to players and now cultural institutions.

"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

If your game has voice acting, then working with the voice actors is half of your writing process. It's not complete until you've heard it interpreted and reimagined by a voice actor. And they always reimagine it in ways that elevate the writing, in ways you never would have imagined yourself.

A friend who is a terrific stage actor asked me about the challenges of voicework and I replied "You not only have to imagine the environment and circumstances, you have to imagine your scene partner." That extra level of contextual integrity separates real story immersion from line delivery.
