It sure did, and some of us said so; some, like Susan Faludi, in her book The Terror Dream, wrote brilliantly about such language. More said we were being hysterical. My point isn't "told ya so"; it's that language really matters.

I'm betting on the backlash. Offshoring is an endemic parasite, killing companies at a slow steady rate. But offshoring never crashed the economy. AI is basically supercharged offshoring, and I suspect the practice is going to catch some strays when things start recovering.

If you haven't already, check out Ed Zitron's coverage. In a nutshell: Gen AI isn't nearly as capable as they claim and it's wildly unsustainable. The industry is a sham of circular funding burning billions that cannot turn a profit. It's going to crash and burn very soon.

Really wish I didn't know that about gaba, though. Been on it for 3 years for nerve pain, with lower anxiety and less insomnia as a fringe benefit.

I went to the ER with a kidney stone last year. By the time we got there I was in "can't stand still, can't keep quiet" levels of pain. They gave me morphine and it cut the pain to manageable levels.. for about 15 minutes. So they gave me IV ibuprofen and 20 minutes later I was on the bus home.

They're running out the global supply of those generators for all these projects, so if anything.. unfortunate.. happens to them they'll be increasingly expensive to replace.
