Here's how the rule of law works, when it comes to presidents who abuse power and violate the constitution.

South Korea's ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol already faces criminal charges of insurrection, in connection with his failed martial law decree last year.

Japanese politics was rocked on Friday as the Kōmeitō announced it would leave its coalition with the LDP after twenty-six years. To understand why this happened and what it means, I wrote a guide for the perplexed.

Claiming to cancel a meeting is a common negotiating tactic for Trump. Back in 2018 he created a lot of empty drama by canceling his upcoming summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un. The meeting - and the bromance - went forward anyway, and I'll bet a bottle of soju Trump and Xi will meet at APEC.

Shameful but not surprising that Trump's lackeys are trying to scare people away from the upcoming 'No Kings' protests. My local 'No Kings' in June was peaceful, festive and very patriotic. Always remember that we can make a big difference simply by showing up and raising our voices. www.nokings.org

Could not be more clear the president wishes he had unilateral power to imprison people, like in an absolute monarchy

He doesn’t so instead he’s forcing the govt to bring charges against his enemies because he wants vengeance

Nakedly corrupt, the sort of thing that necessitates removal from office

This online memorial posted by @theguardian.com is so sad and so important.

Each name and each story brings home the terrible human tragedy of Israel's genocide in Gaza.

These children should still be alive, and their killers should be held to account and brought to justice.
Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead

Trump's nonstop threats to arrest Dems are also about sleepwalking us into forgetting that free societies don't allow for arbitrary arrests of political opponents.

As @kristyparker.bsky.social says, we need to keep reminding ourselves that this isn't how it works:

Quickly, we should launch an initiative to replenish the lost aid and save the millions of lives in danger. The UN, EU, G7, corporations, universities, foundations, churches, advocacy groups, state and local govts could work together to make it happen. The Democrats could take a key organizing role.

Trump and Musk cut vital lifesaving programs so abruptly and thoughtlessly that providers had no time to find alternatives for millions in dire need. This tragedy in Myanmar is the latest example. We need a coordinated effort to replenish the lost USAID resources and to save the lives now in danger.

"Trump wants to use military power to exert more control over the American people, and soon top U.S. military commanders may have to decide whether they will refuse such orders from the commander in chief. The greatest crisis of American civil-military relations in modern history is now under way."

It was taxpayers’ money. Did Homan give it back? If he kept it, did he declare it on his taxes?

Tom Homan, head of ICE, accepted $50k from undercover FBI agents last year, reportedly a bribe in a sting operation. All cash, in a paper bag. Pam Bondi, reading from a script, insists Homan did nothing wrong—yet she refuses to answer any questions about what happened to that cash? Really?

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

NEW: Second, expanded TRO issued in Oregon case challenging Trump's National Guard deployment to the state bars any state or D.C. National Guard being deployed to Oregon.

Update at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/judge-bloc...
[Update, 11:45 p.m.: By Sunday night, a second temporary restraining order was issued in the case, barring the Trump administration from sending any National Guard federalized under 10 U.S.C. 12406 to Oregon from any state or D.C. The move followed actions by the Trump administration overnight to send members of the California National Guard to Oregon and plans to do so as to the Texas National Guard as well.

At a hastily called hearing on Sunday night, Immergut harshly questioned the Justice Department lawyer before her, Eric Hamilton, asking him — while noting that he is an officer of the court — “Do you believe this is appropriate way to deal with my order?”

Issuing the second TRO in as many days in the case, Immergut called the Trump administration’s actions in apparent response to her first order “in direct contravention” of it.

When Miller makes these kinds of statements, he's handing red meat to his critics. No one elected Miller, and he repeatedly shows contempt for the Constitution and the American people. All members of Congress - plus governors and mayors nationwide - should demand that Trump fire him straight away.
whstancil.bsky.social
Miller’s apparent elevation to shadow president and his seeming intent to declare an end to the constitutional order would, in any other administration, be treated as a executive branch meltdown that was immensely embarrassing for the president and requiring Miller’s immediate removal

Highlighting that America’s “historical tradition” makes clear that “this is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law,” U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut on Saturday issued an order temporarily blocking President Donald Trump’s effort to deploy the National Guard in Portland, Oregon.
Federal judge blocks Trump's National Guard mobilization in Oregon
"The President’s determination" that the Guard was needed "was simply untethered to the facts," Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, found. DOJ is appealing.

ICE claims its officers use a “minimum amount of force.”

Note also that almost every move Trump makes on behalf of "conservatives" contradicts basic American conservative ideas of limited government, freedom of expression, local control and independent civil society institutions. Instead Trump's attempts at domination lean into autocracy and fascism.
