I watched my mother die a little less than a year ago, and in a matter of weeks I will watch my mother-in-law die, and this is entirely correct. Also, once you've experienced something like this once, the anxiety will presently differently the next time.

Your question was whether there's a way to prepare for your mother's death, not whether there's a way to worry less about it, and I'll take a stab at answering that question using my experience with my father's as an example. No, you can't prepare for it. It will be like nothing you've felt yet. Maybe you think that if you worry about it really well—if you devote yourself to this anxiety, if you memorize your fear like a prayer—you can defeat it before it defeats you, like Roman's "pre-grieving" on Succession. But it didn't work for him because it doesn't work. Authoritative as it can feel, anxiety is incapable of describing anything it hasn't actually seen, like the death of a parent. All it can do is push us around various ugly landmarks in our minds: awful experiences we've already had, pains we've already processed. Anxiety is the blustering cokehead cousin of self-soothing. It brags about everything it knows to conceal the fact that it doesn't know anything. You can't feel what you haven't felt until, well...until you feel it.

So this IL Hospital Association memo describes an incident where ICE detained a US citizen, gave them HEART PROBLEMS, took them to a hospital where the fought with medical personnel, then left when they realized they detained a CITIZEN.

That was my takeaway after watching Tron: Legacy, and why I don't really give a shit about Tron: Ares. You just cannot shoehorn the premise into a world where most people have at least a cursory general concept of how computer technology works, not even with Bruce Boxleitner.

It IS cool nonsense. It was released before everyone had a computer at home and there was still something almost mystical about the general concept of computer technology. You could not make the original Tron in a computer-literate society.

I have musician friends who went to Berklee and Julliard and were in formal lessons when they were barely able to walk. I have nothing but respect for their knowledge and skill. They've also done stuff with it that I don't have any interest in lol. You're right, it's all about what YOU want!

Eh, "better" is relative to what you want to do with the ability. If you want a well-rounded classical background? Maybe so. If you want to be a working rock musician? Maybe not.

I'm a 75% self-taught musician (primarily guitar), and I haven't felt limited in my musical ambitions for it.
