What a fun game. I started playing, am now in danger of diving deep into their archives

Finally made it to the Savoy #cinema for One Battle After Another. Last chance for a 70mm screening today.

Bearded tits are definitely on my "want to see someday" list. So adorable. In the meantime, here's a blue tit for today's #BirdOfTheDay . #birds
A blue tit clinging to the end of an almost perpendicular standing twig.

She was lucky that fish was already dead, otherwise she wouldn’t have had a chance 😄

Doesn’t get much fuller than with this ring-billed gull fighting to get down an almost too big fish. She did manage in the end, but it took a while and several attempts. #BirdOfTheDay #toronto ##Beakful #birds
A ring-billed gull stamding on a beach, a dead fish in its beak A ring-billed gull standing on a beach, a dead fish in its beak. It’s trying to swallow the fish, which is about double the length as the bird’s head A ring-billed gull stamding on a beach, a dead fish in its beak. The fish seems to be further out of its beak again than in the last picture A ring-billed gull stamding on a beach, a dead fish in its beak. The beak is wide open, the fish half hanging out, as if the bird can’t quite manage to swallow it

The only thing that’s been reduced 500 percent are his brain cells.
Tweet from Acyn quotes Trump: “We are the ones saving health care. One of the things we're doing is we are going to be reducing the cost of medicines by 100%, 200%, 300%, 500%, even more.” Below is a Fox News image of Trump speaking at a White House meeting.

Sorting through pictures for the holiday photo book. Even while ignoring the bird pictures for the first draft, that'll take some time. The curse of digital cameras - I tend to happily snap away all the time.

for today's #spotted theme I've found both meanings in one picture: this Eurasian Siskin seemed as surprised as I was when she landed almost directly next to me. #BirdOfTheDay
a female siskin, with a blotchy chest, and yellow markings all over the rest of its body, sitting on a mossy treebranch, and looking directly at the photographer

#BirdOfTheDay: the #kestrel
a kestrel seen from below, wings spread, its gaze towards the photographer

thank you for doing the work! I hear 48,385 RSVPed when the invites went out this year, so quite a few still missing. Maybe stuck in traffic over Quebec.

Today the theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #migration. Going widescreen on this: visited Cape Tourmente last week, where snow geese are gathering for their migration. Basically out of reach for my camera, but I found the sheer numbers already impressive, even though the peak is still weeks away
A flat landscape on the bank of the St. Lawrence river. In the distance a huge number of white birds are flying up, further behind in a darker blue-grey shade the opposite bank of the river.

oh yes, it's such a spectacular sight.
They're such great flyers, too, here's one attempting to land on a cliff in high winds, all flaps engaged. He was practically standing still in the air *g*
a gannet viewed from behind, hovering in the air. It's wings, tail feathers, and feet are spread wide away from it's body to maximise wind resistance.

Promotional tour for the latest book release in Germany (Stone&Sky / Die Meerjungfrauen von Aberdeen), I think :)
hhsonja.bsky.social
They really are. I'm lucky, their only breeding colony in Germany is just a day trip away (on an island) from me, and they're so used to people that you can get very close without disturbing them.

Wow, love the detail 😍

Today on #BirdoftheDay: #seabirds
No shortage on those here, so here are some #gannets on #heligoland
a portrait of two gannets side by side in evening light. One of them has the species usual blue eyes, the other one's eye is dark/black, a sign it survived a bird flu infection

apparently it was a "technical defect", sirens should only have gone off in one part of the harbour (one that floods pretty much with every storm surge), instead it went city-wide. Great way to get people off the couch on a Sunday evening...

high in demand as a model, is he? That absolutely makes sense *g*
