There seems to be a lot of discussion about Gavin Newsom today.

I wanted to re-share this piece that I wrote, because I have a lot of center-to-left Dems that follow me that want to understand.

There are very good reasons transgender people do not like Gavin Newsom.
Why Transgender People Are Not Feeling Gavin Newsom
We have seen this song and dance before.

Seeing Ian McKellan perform Macbeth in London was a true highlight of my last decade. I'm so glad he did this
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

On 29th January 1996, "Threshold", the Star Trek: Voyager episode where Captain Janeway and Tom Paris turned into giant space newts and had babies first aired. Since it's #ThresholdDay we aim to answer a burning question: did Paris and Janeway fuck? If so, how did they fuck?

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

If this is what they do when they're out on the street with people pointing cameras at them, what do you think is happening inside the ICE prison camps that they keep denying Members of Congress access to?

They didn’t just shoot him. They executed him. It’s fascism. They’re modern Nazis. They’re criminals. Any reasonable government would impeach and arrest the president now, today.

7 Democrats — with the blessing of Hakeem Jeffries and Democratic leadership — just voted with Republicans to give these agents even more money

Hakeem Jeffries deserves to be unemployed.
DHS spending bill passed 220-207

7 Democrats voted in favor:
Henry Cuellar
Don Davis
Laura Gilles
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
Jared Golden
Vicente Gonzalez
Tom Suozzi

Massie voted No
Andy Harris didn't vote

Might not have passed if every Democrat voted No, but leadership wasn't whipping them to do so

This is, in my opinion, not only the correct moral/ethical/legal position but also the correct political framing. Everyone can see the agency is out of control; everyone can see that it is constantly violating human rights. "Scrap it and start over" is the moderate position.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

DO post about being gay!
DO NOT post about doing crime!
Folks, I am literally begging you, if you're going to engage in, shall we say, alternative means of financial or other protest against this government, DO NOT ANNOUNCE IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

PLEASE.

I made my grandmother's pot roast, drank some gifted homemade Kahlua with cocoa, watched Hogfather with my mom, and cheered as my neighbors cleared mudslides and blocked culverts with heavy equipment and shovels and brute force. The dogs got presents. Feels like a holiday to me ❄️

Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, and Vicente Gonzalez joined Republicans in voting to criminalize trans health care.

The bill passed only 216 to 214.

4 Republicans voted no. If they did too, it would have failed.

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like it's freezing here in the bay area/redwood coast. I haven't been this cold in my bones since living in Midwest winters without heat. The heat is on, it's allegedly like 60° today but I'm so cold.
