There's a neurologist called Iain McGilchrist who I find interesting, it very much chimes with his philosophy. Right brain is context, connection. Left brain rationalising and abstract. Poor Syd. Neither hemisphere gave him solace.

"The barabarism of the enemy" is colonial language. Fucking hell, can we never get past this stage of dehumanising brutality? It dehumanises US, not "the enemy". WE are the ones who lose our humanity and descend and devolve and demean ourselves. What a pitiful shame the West is.

Decades of dehumanisation don't get reversed overnight. There will always be people who are vulnerable those narratives and those who will exploit that weakness to gain power. I really don't want to be pessimistic but I am.

Over on Twitter thousands of people will be going "yeah, but who pays for it" without wondering how people pay for it now and what impact that may have on their lives and choices. "You shouldn't have them if you can't afford it" will be said too, without thought of where their pension will come from

I was impressed with what I heard. Free quality child care is, I believe, the most efficient and affordable means of encouraging social mobility. There's abundant evidence from Europe about this, it pays for itself pretty quickly.
