here's my simple diagnosis about what's going on: you can't tell interesting stories if you're not curious about people. and these books are just not curious about people.

I have consumed two separate 2lb bags of peanut butter M&Ms since the beginning of November, and I am seriously considering getting a third. Living my best life or coping poorly? Who can say… who can say…

Airports are liminal spaces where everything is expensive and time doesn’t exist. Get yourself some cheez-its, peanut butter M&Ms, and the largest beer you can find. I support this airport management practice.

This thread is a church+pun nerd delight.
Our local church chorister has chosen to change gender, from now on he wishes to be referred to as he/hymn.

I will always proselytize for The Director’s Cut of The Kingdom of Heaven. One of Ridley Scott’s best.
Today's installment of The December Comfort Watches looks at 2005's The Kingdom of Heaven, which exists in two significantly different versions. Why do these different versions exist, and which version do I prefer? It's all at the link.

I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of the Falklands discourse.

I’m on the periphery enough to just see the salty clap backs without being enraged, and my IR / European Studies nerd heart is delighted.

At any given time I am in need of 3 vacations:
- a restorative vacation (stare at water and read escapist books)
- a reading vacation (be cozy and read more complex or non-fiction books)
- a tourist vacation (travel somewhere else and do new / different things)

Mostly taking the opportunity to plug my favorite secular Christmas song.

“Deer might fly, why not? I met you.” - Just a banger lyric to me. Plus there are jingle bells.

Sufjan’s Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (it’s on the Christmas album) or Tracy Chapman’s version of O Holy Night.

I’m still amused by this… and the fact that I really have seen multiple Medieval Times commercials today.
I just got a YT commercial about the exciting new plot and characters at Medieval Times. Sounds more like a renaissance to me…

I want a North and South miniseries written by Emma Thompson and directed by Joe Wright.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

We’re a taco soup and leftover tamales family.

But what I really care about is Christmas breakfast: sausage balls and monkey bread. It’s not Christmas without it. I care more about that than any other food traditions.

Do other people have designated Christmas breakfast?
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.
I also use the bacon method. Although turkey is Christmas dinner where I come from.
