iTalki now added to the list of language learning apps to avoid/delete.

The *only* way we push back against AI (in this case to non-consensually record audio!) is to refuse to use it.
I used to recommend italki for language learning but they've gone full anti-user by forcing their AI on everyone and recording and using lessons without consent. I'll be deleting my italki account.
cool cool 🙄 #langsky

This teacher has AI recordings turned off but that AI summaries are still given after lessons. "As someone who works in software development the only way for that to happen is for at least audio to be recorded and then fed into an AI model."

Part of the reason we have to so thoroughly shut them out is because if you give them an inch they’ll take a mile. It’s not just that for example Laurelai Bailey keeps returning under different names, it’s that every time she does she also starts another cult with herself at the head

Monsters constantly decry the court of public opinion but I frankly think they’d skate a lot easier if they made a full and frank disclosure of what they did, threw themself on that court’s mercy, and stuck by both decisions. But for some reason none of them ever do

Part of the reason we drive people who do really evil shit out of communities isn’t just that what they did was really evil. It’s that they seem to be absolutely allergic to admitting it, apologising, or stopping

Blueskyese and Xian share an obvious common root as both being Twitteric languages, the difference is that after the split Xian became a hybrid Twitteric/Channer-linkedin tongue, while Blueskyese changed less overall but did pick up some tumbleric and redditor loanwords
yeah Bluesky is primarily a Tumblric language

The way people talk about e-bikes/motos in such hyperbolic terms drives home that this is simply a moral panic. Because if they actually cared about safety they'd reserve such rhetoric for cars.

when i started working as a journalist in 2014, there were trans reporters in multiple national newsrooms. almost all have left. the high output of anti-trans articles & the near absence of articles by trans journalists are two sides of the same coin: institutional transphobia in the UK media.
And now @ludovicparsons.bsky.social highlights the huge increase in anti-trans articles over the last 10 years, as the number of trans journalists falls. The challenge to get positive ripples of trans lives covered, in a sea of gender critical misinformation

I really hope people advocating to ban kids from SM read this. Some kids are isolated by disabilities or circumstances. Furthermore, some kids grow up in abusive households. “Ideally, a child’s exposure to online worlds should be moderated by their parents” isn’t a reassuring sentiment for everyone

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

"ai image detection" tools are snake oil, and I feel like nobody bothered to scrutinize them.

So I opened photoshop cs6, drew a smiley face, and uploaded it to the "accurate" detector:

They're seriously trying the "actually it's good to be a pedophile" defense now.
Over on X, the Everything App, serious conservative thinker Dinesh D'Souza shared a video of an AI-generated woman on a fake podcast he seemingly thought was real, telling the audience that young women should get with older men. Dude, wtf?

Hey, remember that time I said that pointing out that AI is giving bad data to ICE is missing the point because ICE doesn't actually care if the data is good? Check out how right I am.
NEW: Records reviewed by WIRED show DHS’s facial recognition app (Mobile Fortify) isn’t designed to actually "verify" identity—despite DHS claims and its agents relying on its matches to support probable cause in the field.
ICE and CBP’s Face-Recognition App Can’t Actually Verify Who People Are
ICE has used Mobile Fortify to identify immigrants and citizens alike over 100,000 times, by one estimate. It wasn't built to work like that—and only got approved after DHS abandoned its own privacy r...

Venerable magazine Harper's Bazaar is running its short story contest again, with the winner receiving "the chance" of publication in the magazine. Just one catch: per the wording of the guidelines, _just by entering_ you transfer copyright ownership of your story to Harper's parent, Hearst. 1/3

funny to imagine these actually being Sony legacy characters cause none of the actors that voice for their big modern games will do it
Sony has patented the idea of AI-generated podcasts hosted by characters from its games.

The idea would see players getting their own bespoke podcasts on their console, telling them what's new, hosted by the characters of the games they've been playing.
