Scientists: have you been the target of an online harassment campaign, doxxing, or weaponized FOIA requests? I'd like to talk to you about steps you had to take to protect your digital security for an upcoming Nature story. (You can be anonymous if necessary.)

RTs appreciated.

Speaking as a scientist, I just wanna say that we're fucked.
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

This is concerning.

NIH is changing their policy so that staff have to prepare justification for every application that is funded BUT NO DOCUMENTATION FOR APPLICATIONS THAT ARE SKIPPED (BASED ON PERCENTILES).

It’s blowing my mind that schools, universities, public services would run headlong into this. We spent 15 years documenting black boxes. This is a black box in a black hole!
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Can a journal publish a retraction for a cover?
Still thinking about this. If a *scientific journal* is willing to publishing misleading and inaccurate AI-generated illustrations, what's to stop them from publishing AI-generated text? I bet they wouldn't knowingly do the latter. Where's the line? Why are they treating illustrations differently?
The fuck? Hard to even know where to start with all the things wrong here. (Also hope Glenn Northcutt doesn't see it -- he'll have a stroke.) Just appalling. not #neuroethology
