Este ha sido el desgarrador grito de Anabel, paciente d cáncer de mama, contra Juanma Moreno del PP en el Parlamento de Andalucía: "Te voté y me has arruinado la vida". Tremendo.

God, a thousand times this.

That's the thing with dopamine being tied to task initiation - there's a set of gears that won't - CAN'T - engage in my brain, but none of my problems are with analysis.

I can be fully aware of all the necessary steps, and stressing about starting, and just... not.
10/10 take. No notes.

Anyway that's how I learned the way I think of fairness is systemic. It's not fair if it doesn't work for everyone. It's not fair if it relies on magical thinking and erasing the bits of work that get passed down the line. It's not fair for 4 employees to be lazy and one to have panic attacks.

True story, I was someone's workplace GPT and they got a cash recognition prize, a raise and a promotion off of my help before I un-adopted myself on the grounds they were interfering with my work. Things have been pretty steadily downhill for them ever since.
Stop using chatgpt adopt an autistic with special interests TODAY this deal wont last forever mostly cause they get overstimulated pretty fast but hey great for the environment amirite

I contacted a university disability/accommodations office for my dyslexic husband to see if he could get any of these fabled student supports.

"IS HE PERMANENTLY AND IRREPARABLY UNABLE TO FUNCTION?" they inquired.

Upon learning he in fact functions sometimes, they said no to supports.
I find myself increasingly wondering how able bodied people appear to believe that being disabled is"easy."
Getting accommodations in school, uni and/or work: easy, a breeze, even!
Getting a doctor to write you a certificate supporting your needs: EASY!
Working from home: EASY!

Having a mental illness is so funny because you'll explain your thought process to someone and they'll be like, "Well that doesn't make sense," and you're like, "Right, yes, you've grasped the basic concept of mental illness."

My current boss helps me prepare for every interview (consultants interview a lot) by reminding me the best answer to the question "do you have experience in X" is never just "no" even when that is the truth. You're supposed to spin a related experience or say how you would do it if you could.
It is kind of amazing to me that the hiring process does a good job of actively weeding out autistic people,

And then when autistic people actually get jobs they're like "wow direct and clear communication and a strong reliable work ethic, just what we're looking for!"

Could've fooled me..

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

I find it fascinating that almost every person's home I visit now has an area set up to be camera-ready, whether through Zoom, a YouTube camera, or something else, to make your living space aesthetically pleasing for people who will never actually physically enter it.

I don't expect the bluesky mods to enforce their TOS against government accounts.

But they are the ones who decided to make the social media site where all the autistic people hang out.

"Say what the rules actually are, then apply them like you said you would" is a bare minimum for this crowd.

I started watching videos about competitive tetris players and my mind has been completely blown. These are levels of autism previously thought unreachable. I can't believe people wanna get rid of autism, it's the only thing powerful enough to propel competitive tetris and that's a good thing.

I will never forget the coworker, a mother of an autistic child, who asked me in all seriousness if I REALLY thought that being autistic was a different experience than being an autistic kid's parent. If I really thought she didn't fully understand her kid's experience.
I recently read a thread by @erinbiba.bsky.social about abled parents of disabled children being ableist. I don't know if you all understand the ways in which you fundamentally don't get your children's disability experiences. Not your fault, but also, know your place. 1/

If you are an autistic person who believes doing taxes is crazy hard because you grew up watching your ADHD dad agonizing over them so you've avoided them as hard as you can your whole life

Just try it. It might all make sense to you.

And then you can help your ADHD spouse 😭

"No special treatment" usually means "but I don't think this is my job" or "but I don't know how to do this" or even "but how will I explain this to my other employees" and those are all problems for a manager to solve, not their disabled employee. You don't need a checklist. You need a leader coach

"I don't have any problems, why am I so tired" syndrome
Tl;dr many ND people develop systems to cope with their challenges, and when the systems work they don't notice the challenges anymore, but maintaining the systems can be exhausting and when they break down the functions they were supporting break down too.

Imagine you lived in the 18th century.

Smallpox kills 1 in 3 cases. Yet you can’t culture pathogens, don’t know germ theory, and have no idea what a virus is. How would you invent a vaccine?

In a new episode of HARD DRUGS, we trace the history of vaccines!
