I was gifted a copy of this book and it's wonderful, and I highly recommend it, especially if you want to find a delightful gift for an otherwise hard-to-buy-for nerd in your life!

It took me 30 minutes to write this post because I started paging through it again. 😅

One day I woke up and decided I wanted to do a stop motion animation. So I animated a simple run cycle, printed each frame and stuck them around my city ✨️
(Which btw, I felt super guilty about)

In 2015 at Fast Forward Labs we tried to build a "take a photo and track calories" app as a demo for image object recognition.

There are two main machine learning tasks here, one is photo->food labels, and two is food labels->calorie/macro estimates.

I've always admired @albertocairo.com's work and I'm delighted to see this project to track and visualize news coverage that impacts trans communities.

It's important to see the big picture! And I hope it leads to much more support for trans journalists and fair coverage.
My new big visualization project is out: The Trans News Initiative, a collaboration between UM's School of Communication, the Trans Journalists Association, and Polygraph (The Pudding): transnewsinitiative.org Here's a piece about it in the Columbia Journalism Review: www.cjr.org/news/visuali...

The girl in this story should be celebrated, not punished.

The boy should be disciplined, perhaps expelled, not arrested.

The company that enabled a teenage boy to make child porn nudes of a 13 year old classmate should be shut down, and the owners charged.

A heated school board meeting led authorities to reveal that a Louisiana middle schooler was charged with sharing AI-created nude images of a 13-year-old classmate.

As I ride a Waymo through San Francisco and see every ad advertising some AI this and that, and people in need in every direction, I am trying to imagine, what would the world be like if the Bay Area, as a tech/business ecosystem, didn’t exist?

This is a sad but correct decision. Thank you, @python.org, for committing to your values when it matters.

I would love a list of organization that have made this kind of value-driven decision to donate to.
as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so. The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement,

Looks as if Trump is saying no Democrat will be allowed to win another national election—and he will use the FBI, the DOJ, and the CIA to make sure of that. This is a full-scale attack on American democracy, and every Republican, CEO, and conservative mouthpiece who doesn't object is complicit.
Trump: "We can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again. We just can't let that happen. I know Kash is working on it, everybody is working on it. And certainly Tulsi is working on it. We can't let that happen again to our country."

These are very good words.
Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.
