It is important to say aloud the words "The president might invade Greenland because he doesn't understand Mercator projection map distortions and he thinks Denmark's government won't get him a Nobel Peace Prize."

This is a real statement. These is our lives.
NORWAY PM: I HAVE REPEATEDLY CLEARLY EXPLAINED TO TRUMP THAT IT IS AN INDEPENDENT COMMITTEE THAT AWARDS THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

European forces were deployed to deter us, and this has led the tariff otaku to press the tariff button. The fact that this deployment not only happened but triggered retaliation tells me there's smoke here. The US not readying an attack *due to to an armed deterrent* is not a nothingburger.
I mean right now the US has no troops deployed in any position *to* attack and hasn't begun the process, so there's nothing to stop unless we later find out that the orders were given and actually stopped by the officer corps. Which would be wonderful, because that'll be relevant to 'kill the civs'.
My Greenland prediction:
1.) The U.S. won't attack.
2.) It won't attack because it was stopped.
3.) It being stopped will be used to tar people urgent about it being stopped as hysterics

Probably a lesson in there somewhere on how much energy went into scolding people online for playing the Nazi card in arguments even as more and more people were actually being drawn to that identity.

Four GOP Senators.

At most four Repubs in the House.

Together they could stop nearly all the mad-king's rampages. They would be known to history as Profiles in Courage. They might/would lose the next election. But people have sacrificed a lot more, for a lot less.
I can't repeat this enough.
I've said this before and I'll say it again.
It would only take a tiny handful of Republican Congress members or senators to stop the slide of America toward authoritarian fascism, but nope. They're all in.

Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

🚨BREAKING: DEMS DRAW RED LINE IN DHS APPROPS: NO FUNDING INCREASE FOR ICE. POLICY RIDERS GROWING. STORY COMING IN MIGRANT INSIDER
🚨NEWS: Senate Dems are reportedly offering ICE funding increases in exchange for body cams and de-escalation training for agents.

Body cams can be turned off. De-escalation training can be ignored.

Unclear if no masks, requiring ID badges, and no immunity is on the table.

I've increasingly come to view cynicism as the seedbed of totalitarianism, both because it can paralyze the opposition and because it implicitly validates the might-makes-right ethic of the authoritarian.
i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

This is an answer nobody would ever accept from a democrat. A democrat who gave this answer would be ruthlessly mocked until the end of time. Yet Trump and Republicans get away with it without so much as a follow-up.
Q: Can you explain how your healthcare plan will affect premiums?

TRUMP: It's a tremendous thing. It's called the great healthcare plan. And we're gonna get tremendous, uh, reductions through, uh, if you look at prescription drugs, they're gonna come down by numbers that have never been seen before

I'm confident that Trump would much prefer killing and abducting people off the street with no opposition, no videos, no media coverage, and no damage to his poll numbers
I must disagree with Tim Walz's theory that "Trump wants a show."

A more straightforward explanation is that he wants violent repression of immigrants, nonwhite people, and anyone who stands with them. Which is why he's doing that.

It's making a show. Lying down and taking it wouldn't change that.

Someone on the ground can correct me, but I haven't seen any presence at all of pro-regime militias, even though it would be helpful to the regime. I don't know if there are even many informers or collaborators. Yes, it's an opposition stronghold, but 200,000 voted for the regime. Where are they?

Think you have to retire the phrase “immigration crackdown” when every major violent spectacle — at least those the news is choosing to highlight — involve US citizens screaming “Check my ID!”
As the Trump administration escalates its immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, arrests and aggressive tactics by ICE and the Border Patrol, many seen on viral videos, have intensified the frustration and fear among residents, business owners and immigrant workers. trib.al/zVm2mk5

It's impossible to comply with these goons, they tell her to go, she starts to go....and then the guy runs up and smashes the window and they all surround her and drag her out. Criminals doing carjackings are more organized than this
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.
