Foul-mouthed yellow-dog Democrat, knitter from Illinois. She/her. Probably not that interesting. A student of mine once wrote on an evaluation, "She thinks she's funny, but she's not."

Please don't DM me.

This makes facially neutral policies--like poll taxes and literacy tests--that we know were adopted for discriminatory purposes legal. Organizations can now simply claim there was no discriminatory intent regardless of outcome. It's unconstrained institutionalized racism.

Our country has become a dystopian hellhole. I can hear our founding fathers spinning in their graves.
Dulce Consuelo Diaz Morales was born in Maryland. She has a valid U.S. birth certificate, medical and immunization records, and sworn affidavits.

Yet, ICE claims her documents are “not authentic” and has held her in immigration detention for days.

Dulce Consuelo Diaz Morales was arrested on Sunday. ICE won’t release her despite extensive documentation of her citizenship, her attorneys told HuffPost.

Way back in the 70s there were 2 Saturday Night Live sketches. The first was a group of men discussing Women's Problems. The 2nd was women on Men's Problems ("They can't fake it.")

Can't imagine why I thought of this. 🤔

"Feminism is the radical notion that women are people."

These pieces really do make it clear that it's not so much that men like this view chatbots as human women. It's that they don't actually view women as humans. We're flattery machines that are defective if we don't sufficiently flatter them.

Did you know that Venezuela was one of the first countries we sent foreign aid? And we were the 2nd to recognize them as an independent nation (after Brazil). During the 19th century, Venezuela and the U.S. gave each other mutual most favored nation status.

Because the Democrats were busy fighting to make certain it first survived all the Republican attempts to kill it. The ACA/Obamacare could do with some fine-tuning, but Democrats only had 2 years Congressional majority since Trump regime pt. 1, and there wasn't time to do everything.
COLLINS: What do you say to people who say Republicans have had 15 years to change the ACA and they haven't done it?

RICK SCOTT: Why didn't Democrats fix it?

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

Great thread on the petty and stupid cruelty of the Trump admin, which makes their own lives more difficult for no reasons other than to hit vague goals of putting people into removal proceedings.
1/ One thing that I think is getting understandably overlooked in the coverage of immigration overenforcement is just how wasteful and inefficient ICE is being even when they aren't kidnapping and caging people who should be with their families.

Here's a quick example from my casefiles today:

Everything old is new again. Also, who will history judge more harshly, Roberts or Taney?
I've posted this image before, but it's still so relevant today: in this 1936 editorial cartoon for the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper, artist Romare Bearden labeled the Supreme Court as "The Great Barrier to Equality"

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

Also, some of us are older & time goes by more quickly as we age, so we think we only got our phone a couple of years ago. Surely we can wait another year?
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.

Have you ever read one of those terrible literary novels that are, like, set at a small midwestern college, maybe somewhere in Ohio, and the plot is all about a professor whose marriage is falling apart, and then he has a tragically doomed 1/x
