Night Mayor, D2.
Portland policy + politics. Blazers, beer + spirits, support the arts.
[he/they]
Chavez is a deadly street that functions well for no one. It's stressful to drive on, the 75 is slow, virtually unbikeable, and walking along or across it is a harrowing experience. We can and should do better. @pbotinfo.bsky.social @mayorkwilson.bsky.social @councilormorillo.bsky.social
if a street kills this many pedestrians it should get knocked down to 2 lanes, 15 mph, speed bumps, new concrete protected bike lanes, and this should happen within a few months
Calle Cesar Chavez is a high-volume arterial with a 30 mph speed limit, four general travel lanes and a notorious history of fatal crashes.

Assuming those signatures are legit, Gov. Tina Kotek will want to start getting ready to lay off hundreds of ODOT workers -- or finding another option.

A successful referral would freeze taxes Dems say they need to fund those positions. #orpol

The thing that's always frustrated the right wing ideologues who've glommed onto Trump is that he doesn't have the attention span to actually be a committed ideological warrior. He can scream all the right culture war shit, but it's just WWE pugilistic showmanship. He basically has no belief system.
Trump frickin' loves this guy lmao

Again, I don’t want to get too personal but the most tepidly political, structurally vulnerable people in my life were protesting ICE all week. The juxtaposition here is just wild.
The degree to which the Democratic Party is failing to meet this moment is staggering. And INFURIATING, when contrasted with the courage on display from ordinary people with far, far less power & protection.

For reasons I do not understand, I've found myself staring at this screenshot of mayoral endorsements from the very serious, inscrutable institution known as pdxreal. Finding something new to chuckle about each time I look at it.

Ah yes, everybody knows the concerns of homeowners are famously under-represented in our city government. Thank you for taking such a courageous stand to ensure property owners finally have a voice on this council, Dan Ryan /s
Councilor Sameer Kanal diagnosed the different sides of this issue as “status quo versus change.” He pointed out that half of Portlanders are renters, but they've been underrepresented in local leadership, and cast aside accordingly. Ryan seemed to take that as an affront to homeowners like himself.

Astonishing to stop and realize that, at any given moment, bands of masked men armed to the teeth are storming churches and daycares, terrorizing entire communities—and that most of the country's political establishment barely blinks.

Dan Ryan suggests legislation that would regulate landlord price-fixing in Portland comes from up high at the DSA national network, "a solution in search of a problem" pulled from a playbook akin to the left's project 2025.

Imagine escaping the literal Nazis, making it to America, living three quarters of a century there making your life, and then this:
79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

"Now Governor Kotek has an opportunity to heal her wounded transportation legacy by picking an ODOT director that is humble enough to change the status quo and courageous enough to create a new one."
"Maybe the OTC and Oregon lawmakers will wake up and take our state's approach to transportation in a very different direction — one that stops chasing freeway expansion megaprojects as a solution to climate change (which is what Strickler believed them to be)..."
