There's plenty not to like about British Xmas music, especially if you ever had to work in retail or pubs in December, but it's fundamentally *party* music. US Xmas music is schmaltz.

It’s weird how there’s always moves to make fiction more “interactive” with different endings etc. It’s like these people have never seen the same film twice a few years apart and had a completely different reaction. All fiction is interactive. That there’s an audience is the interactive part.

This is an argument I have made for a while - if you want to allow more new housing development, you'll face a lot less opposition if you protect existing tenants with rent regulation. Nice to have some more evidence to back that up.
Um, ok...

This paper forthcoming at the JOP provides evidence that rent control in Germany actually made tenants MASSIVELY *less* NIMBY.

This result was in the opposite direction of the authors' pre-registered expectations.

And the effect sizes are, truly, massive.

Even in a sea of dreadful stories this one is wild. But then you never find just one cockroach.
This is what Russia does to its own. Imagine what it does to the places it conquers

The Thick of It is the greatest documentary on UK politics ever made, when you have absolutely no idea who any of these bit players are.

Fun fact -- despite all the talk about "China slowdown, India growth acceleration", China has grown faster than India over trailing 5, 10, 15, and 20 year periods in USD GDP/Capita terms

This is despite the fact that the INR is overvalued and the RMB is undervalued (perhaps significantly)
The Indian rupee has fallen below 90 per dollar for the first time.

Contrarian anti-authority thinking wins again.
I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

i’m sure Tesla has them all outdone.

bubble or no, we in the US need to learn a competitive, subsidized (a bubble is a form of subsidy, while it lasts) industry is the way you drive capability forward, not a swaggering (also inevitably subsidized) national champion.

Udo Kier was often the absurdist ‘it plays louder at 11’ character, often as a palette cleanser when used in one of his many von Trier joints. But he could also dial it back just enough to make us unsure of his intentions, like in van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho.
